Kenyan Ruth Chepngetich has made her country proud by winning the World Athletics Championships women's marathon in sweltering Doha...

She clocked 2 hours 32 minutes and 43 seconds. Ruth Chelimo took second position with 2:33.46 and Namibian Commonwealth Champion Helalia Johanes took third place with 2:34.15 on the clock.

The weather was not very conducive to the marathon runners but the race went ahead with 28 race starters withdrew out of 68.

Ruth Chelimo of Uganda had to be rushed to the hospital while others were seen on wheelchairs.

"It was a tough race but I know what to expect as I ran in Dubai.

"I trained for this weather running in the afternoon when the sun was high."
