EMINEM HYPE MAN FOR TERENCE CRAWFORD AT VEGAS FIGHT

Showtime

The Terence Crawford/Errol Spence fight Saturday night was incredible, but the bonus at the top had fans going insane ... Crawford's hype man for the walkout was Eminem!!!

Crawford and Em appeared in a cloud of smoke as the rapper besieged the crowd to make some noise for the next welterweight champion of the world. Turns out he was right.

The two walked next to each other as "Lose Yourself" blared through the arena, and fans ate it up.

Eminem gave his stamp of approval after the fight, tweeting, “This is 2 crazy.!!! You r 1 of my favorite boxers rn!”

Crawford willed it to happen, posting a vid expressing his wish the dude from Detroit would accompany him into the ring.

Eminem may have been Crawford's good luck charm. The fight was stopped after 9 rounds and Crawford won by TKO, making him -- just like Eminem predicted -- the undisputed welterweight champ.

IOC ASKS SINGH TO CONTINUE AS ACTING HEAD OF OLYMPIC COUNCIL OF ASIA

Reuters

The International Olympic Committee has asked India's Randhir Singh to continue as acting head of the Olympic Council of Asia, according to a letter seen by Reuters, after the IOC refused to recognise the Asian governing body's elections.

Earlier this week, the IOC banned Kuwait's Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah for three years, saying he had an "undeniable impact" on this month's OCA elections in which his brother Sheikh Talal Fahad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah was appointed president.

Sheikh Ahmad travelled to Bangkok ahead of the election and was in the city when it took place, which was "interpreted as interference in the election process" by the IOC's ethics commission. Sheikh Ahmad has denied any wrongdoing.

VERSTAPPEN WINS EIGHTH IN A ROW AT #BELGIANGP

Reuters

Formula One championship leader Max Verstappen roared to a crushing eighth win in a row, one short of the all-time record, in a Red Bull one-two with Sergio Perez at the Belgian Grand Prix on Sunday.

Red Bull's 13th consecutive victory made the team the first in the sport's 73-year history to win the opening 12 races of a season, one more than McLaren managed in 1988 with Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost.

Verstappen, who started sixth after a five-place grid penalty, extended his championship lead over Perez to 125 points -- effectively five races -- after taking the chequered flag 22.3 seconds ahead of the Mexican.

WHAT TERENCE CRAWFORD DID TO ERROL SPENCE JR WAS SPECIAL | AND HE IS TRULY GREAT

Terence Crawford made Errol Spence Jr look like just another opponent on Saturday, and he deserves all the credit.

Terence Crawford completely outclassed Errol Spence Jr on Saturday night. He became undisputed welterweight champion of the world, the second time he’s become an undisputed champion, the first male fighter to do that in the four-belt era.

For years, Crawford heard from various angles that he hadn’t fought anyone, that he would struggle if he had been with Premier Boxing Champions, the outfit that all but owned the 147 lb division. Never mind that Crawford had won a title at 135 and gone undisputed at 140.

VERSTAPPEN PIPS PIASTRI TO POLE FOR SPA SPRINT RACE

Reuters

Red Bull's Formula One leader Max Verstappen pipped Australian rookie Oscar Piastri to pole position for Saturday's sprint race at the Belgian Grand Prix after a rain-delayed and red-flagged qualifying shootout.

McLaren's Piastri had been on top of the timesheets until the final seconds when double world champion Verstappen went 0.011 quicker with a lap of one minute 49.056 seconds on a drying track.

Ferrari's Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc will share the second row.

The standalone sprint format is being used at Spa for the first time, the third of six such events this season.

DESPITE MAXIMUM EFFORTS, FORMULA 1 LOSES NEARLY 650,000 OF IT'S AMERICAN AUDIENCE MAJORITY DUE TO MAX VERSTAPPEN AND RED BULL’S DOMINANCE

In recent times, Formula 1 has managed to garner a huge fanbase from the United States following its massive push to get hold of the North American market. Admittedly, they were able to penetrate the vast market thanks to Netflix’s ‘Drive to Survive’ and an increased presence in social media. However, recent reports suggest that the sport has lost about 650,000 fans, and the reason behind this drop might be RedBull and their driver Max Verstappen.

Widespread speculations point towards Verstappen‘s dominant run being the only reason behind fans withdrawing from the sport. This has turned out to be the case, despite there being three American races in one calendar year.

F1 has tried hard to make F1 more exciting. This includes restructuring a Grand Prix weekend and trying out new things, such as the new qualifying format. However, so far, it is safe to say that it didn’t work. Despite all the efforts, a huge portion of the fanbase in the US is now turning away from F1, mostly because of the failure of other teams to rise up to Verstappen and Red Bull’s challenge.

Viewership loss in The United States is a big blow for F1

Following the massive surge in viewership in the United States over the last few years, sports channel ESPN signed up for a massive broadcasting deal with F1. Interestingly, before this surge, they used to pay only a sum of $5,000,000 a year.

Now, however, ESPN, a part of Disney, pays $90,000,000 a season to Liberty Media. As a part of the deal, ABC also gets to broadcast several Grand Prix races throughout the season.

However, according to the GP Blog, ESPN hasn’t been able to make much from this new contract. ABC recorded 2.6 million views in the 2022 Miami GP race, which made it the most-watched F1 race in American history. Unfortunately, in the following year, Miami GP saw the viewership dip to about 25%, which means about 650,000 fewer people tuned in to watch the race.

The major reason for these massive drops might be RedBull and Max Verstappen, who have made F1 boring, in the eyes of many viewers. A few incidents also indicate that the 2-time drivers’ championship winner is not America’s favorite and many of the fans are disappointed with his dominance.

The 2023 F1 season is all about Red Bull and Max Verstappen’s supremacy

The current season has had 11 races so far and astonishingly, Red Bull picked up all the 11 wins. Their star driver Max Verstappen picked up nine of them, while his teammate Sergio Perez picked up the rest two.

With the recent win at the Hungaroring, the Austrian team broke McLaren’s record by winning 12 consecutive F1 races (including one they won in 2022). As for Verstappen, he is very close to breaking Sebastian Vettel’s record of winning nine consecutive Grand Prixs.

Despite this, F1 has been trying to put in the best possible effort to keep a hold on its existing American market and increase it even further. They are trying to get the American people to enjoy the sport more, which is why there are three races taking place in the country in 2023.

LANDO NORRIS BLAMES VERSTAPPEN OVER $45,000 F1 WINNER’S TROPHY BREAKAGE

Lando Norris has cheekily suggested that it was Max Verstappen’s fault that he accidentally broke the $45,000 winner’s trophy during the podium celebration at Formula 1’s Hungarian Grand Prix.

As the drivers began their traditional spraying of Ferrari sparkling wine, Norris performed his trademark tactic of getting the bubbling flowing by smashing the bottom of his bottle down on the ground.

He used the top step of the podium as his base but, as he made contact, the impact was enough to bounce Verstappen’s nearby winner’s trophy off and it hit the floor – breaking into pieces.

Norris quickly realised what he had done – letting out a shock expression – before resuming his celebration and then informing Verstappen of the bad news.

McLaren posted an apology to Red Bull late on Sunday night, alongside a video of how Norris had broken the trophy.

Speaking about what had happened in the post-race press conference, Norris smiled when he reckoned it was Verstappen’s fault for having left the trophy in a bad place.

“Max just placed it too close to the edge,” said Norris. “It fell over, I guess. Not my problem. It’s his!”

According to Hungarian F1 journalist Sandor Meszaros, the trophies handed out to the top three were not the work of the moment – and not cheap.

“The #HungarianGP trophies are made by Herendi Porcelanmanufaktura Zrt,” he wrote on Twitter. “All are handmade, production time is approximately six months and it costs ~ 40.000 euros.”

The trophy incident was the only blot on another great day for Norris and McLaren as it took its second consecutive podium finish with second place behind Verstappen.

And while Red Bull clearly looks out of touch at the moment, Norris welcomed a runner’s-up spot that he felt was punching above the team’s weight because he reckoned Mercedes was faster in Hungary.

“I think between us and Mercedes we’re pretty tied,” he said when asked if he felt McLaren now had the second-quickest car in F1. “If you look at tyre degradation, Mercedes are way, way better than we are. Always have been.

“Mercedes have always been very, very strong with tyre deg. If you look at qualifying, the Mercedes was quite a bit quicker with Lewis, so I'm going to be the guy that says, no. I believe that Mercedes are very close, but it's tight.

“I think, like I said, if Lewis stayed ahead in Turn 2, they would have beaten us today and I probably wouldn’t be on the podium at all. And then you'd be saying, ‘ah, Mercedes are quicker.'

"But just because I overtook him you think McLaren are quicker. So, it's tight. They're doing a good job. But also, McLaren. I'm very happy with them. They've done an excellent job.”

In the wake of the Verstappen trophy breakage, the Herendi company that made the cup has vowed to replace it.

Attila Simon, the company's CEO, told Hungary’s M4 Sport's channel: “The teams will decide who was to blame, but we will take on the joyful and heavy burden of making it again.”

Production on the cup has already started, with the six-month production process aiming to be shortened so Verstappen can be awarded it in the next few weeks.
