SOUTH AFRICA RUGBY LEGEND CHESTER WILLIAMS DIES AT 49

Rugby legend Chester Williams has passed away at age 49...

Williams was in the 1995 world cup winning squad and he was the only black man in that team.

Williams also played for Western Cape at the Currie Cup.

He scored 14 tries with the Springboks from 1993-2000 and plated 27 tests.

He had spells as a coach with Super Rugby’s Cats, Springbok Sevens and the Pumas.

The president of Rugby South Africa, Mark Alexander, said, “Chester was a true pioneer in South African rugby.

“His performances at the World Cup in 1995, as a snapshot of his Springbok career, will be etched in the hearts and minds of our rugby public.

“The news of Chester’s passing is devastating and hard to believe, as he was still young and seemingly in good health.”
