BRAZIL: BRAZIL MOURNS THE DEATH OF A FOOTBALL TEAM AFTER PERISHING IN A PLANE CRASH NEAR MEDELLIN COLOMBIA


Brazil is devastated by the loss of an entire football team whereby only 3 players survived...A chartered plane carrying 77 people including Chapecoense football team crashed as it approached Medellin airport in Colombia...
Chapecoence football team was on it's way to play the finals of South American club cup (Copa Sudamericana) with Atletico Nacional from Medellin...The final has now been suspended...The Atletico Nacional team has asked the South American Football Confederation to award the trophy to Chapecoence as a "posthumous homage to the victims"...Brazil officials have cancelled all games for 7 days of mourning...


It was a mountainous area where the plane came down near Medellin city at around midnight local time...Mayor of Medellin said it was "a tragedy of huge proportion"...



Only 6 people survived the crash, 3 players a journalist who was covering the matches and 2 crew members are the ones who made it out alive...Among the dead are 20 journalists who were covering the team that was heading towards a great destiny but only to be cut short...


Thousands have gathered at Chapecoence's home town of Chapeco at Arena Conda to mourn the loss of a great small team...Liverpool, Hull City, Everton also payed tribute to the fallen heroes from Brazil before their Efl Cup game...


Juca Kfouri, 66, a renowned Brazilian soccer columnist said "At times like this, the shock is so intense that its nearly impossible to remain calm"...


President of Colombia, Juan Manuel Santos, in a televised address said "a tragedy that has the whole region in mourning...



Brazilian soccer legend Pele also expressed his condolence by saying on twitter "The Brazilian football team is in mourning"..."This is a tragedy. I send my condolence to the families of the deceased. Rest in peace."...Indeed it is a very sad ending to the rising giants.
