Arsene Wenger says talks are going on well with Messut Ozil but Ozil and Alexis Sanchez may leave by January.
Their contracts are due to come to an end when the season shuts down.
Wenger said "It's my understanding" when asked about Mesut Ozil continuing positive talks.
"The fact we didn't agree last year doesn't mean he wants to leave.
"Both players look happy and overall I hope the situation can be turned around, but at the moment we are not close enough to announce anything. Talks are going well."
In other news, Shkodran Mustafi will be out for 6 weeks nursing a hamstring injury.
