INDY 500: FERNANDO ALONSO SECURES 5TH ON THE STARTING GRID
Formula One driver Fernando Alonso has secured 5th position on the starting Grid of the 101th Indy 500...
He was among the 'fast nine' in practice and he managed to get second row, 5th position, on the starting Grid on May 28th...
After he's 4-lap qualifying run he set an average speed of 231.300mph...
Scott Dixson fron new Zealand took pole position with an average speed of 232.164mph...
"I think the car was better than yesterday" said Alonso...
"We had an over-boost problem (with the turbocharger) in the final corner, so the engine was like hitting the brakes and I lost a bit."...
He went into Instagram after his engine was changed for the final run and wrote, "With everything that has happened today being among top five is a dream...
"Fifteen day ago I would never have thought about fighting for the pole. Thanks to the whole team. Now another week of learning and race next weekend."...
2 former F1 drivers finished ahead of Alonso...Alexander Rossi, an American who drove for Caterham and Murussia, and Takuma Sato from Japan who drove for Jordan, BAR and Super Aguri.
