FIFA: WORLD CUP TO HAVE 48 TEAMS INSTEAD OF 32 TEAMS

The World Cup will host 48 teams instead of the usual 32 teams FIFA has decided...
In the initial stage there will be 16 Groups of 3 teams and will move to a knockout stage of 32 teams...It will take effect in the 2026 World Cup tournament...The governing body voted unanimously for the change at a meeting in Zurich...Tournament matches will go up to 80 games from 64 but winning teams will play the usual 7 games...It is the 1st World Cup expansion since 1998...In 1930 Uruguay World Cup only 13 teams participated and in 1998 32 teams from 24 in the 1986 Mexico World Cup...

Some sections are not happy at all about the expansion...One of them being European Club Association (ECA) that represents clubs in the European zone...Gianni Infantino was been a advocate of the expansion from the start saying the World Cup has to be "more inclusive"...On another positive note FIFA has done research and the results show that revenues will increase to 5.29 billion Pounds as well as potential profit rise of 521 million Pounds.
