SERGIO MARCHIONNE: FERRARI COULD QUIT F1

Ferrari's President Sergio Marchionne says Ferrari could quit Formula One if they do not agree with Liberty Media...
While on a conference call with investors Marchionne pinpointed the new proposal by Liberty Media to come up with new engine design by 2012.

F1 has been "part of our DNA since the day we were born" said Marchionne.

"If we change the sandbox to the point it becomes unrecognisable, I don't want to play anymore."

Mercedes and Renault also oppose the new engine design proposal.

Liberty Media will layout more of the proposed changes that will include budget caps.

Merchionne went on to say "Liberty has got a couple of good intentions in all of this, one of which is to reduce the cost of execution for the team, which I think is good.

"There a couple of things we don't necessarily agree with , one of which if the fact that somehow powertrain uniqueness is not going to be one of the drivers of distinctiveness of the participants' line-up. I would not countenance this going forward.

"The fact we now appear to be at odds in terms of the strategic development of this thing, and we see the sport in 2021 taking on a different air, is going to force some decisions on the part of Ferrari.

The idea that Liberty Media wants to turn F1 into a global Nascar thing does not sit well with Merchionne.

"I don't want to play Nascar globally, I just don't," were the Ferrari presidents words
