A mini van was trying to cross an intersection and hit a motorcycle.
The motorcycle was also carrying a woman who pronounced dead at the scene according affiliate KXAN.
The former Bears running back is the second in school history to score 64 rushing touchdowns.
He rushed over 1,000 yards in each of his four seasons at Texas.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends and our community of lettermen. He will he missed," tweeted The University of Texas team.
Cedric was a fine football player for us," said the Cincinnati Bengals President.
"Our organization is deeply saddened by his sudden and tragic passing. The Bengals extend our deepest condolences to Cedric's family."
