DETAINED MICHEL PLATINI IN 'HOT SOUP' OVER 2022 QATAR WORLD CUP AWARD

French football legend and former UEFA president has been detained in conjunction with a criminal investigation into corruption...

The corruption investigation stems from the award of 2022 World Cup to Qatar.

The investigation also involves Claude Gueant former secretary general of the Elysee and President Nicolas Sarkozy.

The former three-time Ballon d'Or winner has acknowledged in November 2010 that the three had lunch at the Elysee Palace. It is in that meeting that investigators are looking into.

It is suspected that Sarkozy wanted 'a favour for a favour' and Platini was at the right capacity to make 'moves' on the Qatar bid.

After Qatar was awarded the World Cup Qatar Airways ordered 50-French made A320 neo family planes.

The 50 planes were made by Airbus.

QSI bought and heavily funded Paris Staint-Germain. PSG is a club that Sarkozy loves and supports.

Platini is held in Nanterre, a suburb in western Paris.
