MLB: RED SOX LEGEND DAVID ORTIZ SHOT IN THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC

Former Red Sox legend David Ortiz was shot in the Dominican Republic in an attempted burglary...
Ortiz was initially said to have been shot in the leg but other sources say he was shot from behind and the bullet went through his stomach.

A spokes person for the Dominican National Police says the gunman who was on a motorcycle approached Ortiz directly.

Very disturbing news for Baseball fans around the world that this has happened in his home town where he has brought so much back to his people.

He is a legend who retired in 2016 with 3 World Series with the Boston Red Sox as well as the ASCL MVP in 2004 when he broke the "Curse of the Bambino".

Basically he is still idolized by many former, current and aspiring baseball players around the world.

Known by his teammates as 'Big Papi', Big Ortiz has done so much to the sport of baseball and for his home country sealing his name as a true legend.

His teammates and sports fraternity at large have reached out on twitter and other way wishing him a quick recovery.

Ortiz's father said, "He is resting right now, he is stable"

Jhoel Lopez, a television reporter was also shot, according to his wife Liza  Blanco.

Several suspects were arrested after the shooting.

It was not clear if the motorcyclist was one of them but reports say one suspect is in the hospital after encountering the wrath of bystanders immediately after the shooting.
