Yamaha boss has defended his team's decision to extend Maverick Vinales' contract early...
Critics have questioned the idea of giving Vinales' another extension after his mishaps and lack of form.
They point out it was too early to secure Vinales.
Yamaha boss hit back at critics when he said, "When you sign a contract, you are not signing it for now - you sign it to show you have confidence that working with your partners, you can achieve your goal.
"I think that's why Maverick made his decision, and we don't intend to leave him disappointed.
"We were left a little short in the in lot races of last year and winter testing has been troubling, but I'm happy with the results.
"Valentino achieved a podium in hot, though condition and we saw Maverick fight back and set very fast lap times.
"Despite the issues at the beginning of the race, which is sometimes something that he does to him self.
"That bodes well with the future, and Sunday was a very good result considering some of the hard times we've been to recently.
"We are there and on our day, we're competitive as anyone else, and we just have to hold that, and be fast in any condition and on any day."
