CONTROVERSY HITS CANELO VS. CRAWFORD CARD WITH HORRIFIC HEAVYWEIGHT VERDICT

Jermaine Franklin Jr. got a decision that stunned the boxing world as Ivan Dychko saw his undefeated record ripped away in a highly controversial fashion on the Canelo vs. Crawford undercard at Allegiant Stadium.

The heavyweight clash, fought over ten sluggish rounds, produced a verdict few could agree with, casting a shadow over what should have been a showcase night for the sport.

One-way traffic through six rounds

From the outset, the story looked straightforward. Dychko, a decorated two-time Olympic bronze medalist, dictated with his jab and superior reach. Using footwork to offset Franklin, the Kazakh kept control while the American, remembered for his loss to Anthony Joshua, looked sluggish, out of condition, and without rhythm.

Franklin never found consistency, often plodding forward without ideas, as Dychko picked him off with ease.

Across the first six rounds, Dychko built a clear lead, jabbing, moving, and frustrating Franklin. He controlled distance, tempo, and the quality of work, piling up points as Franklin’s corner searched in vain for answers.

Across the first six rounds, Dychko built a clear lead, jabbing, moving, and frustrating Franklin. He controlled distance, tempo, and the quality of work, piling up points as Franklin’s corner searched in vain for answers.

The second half brought flashes of aggression from Franklin, but they were brief and ineffective. At one point, he did look close to troubling Dychko, but couldn’t, leaving more doubts than ever about his credentials at the top end of the division.

The Scorecards That Stunned Las Vegas

When the final bell rang, the consensus was simple: Dychko had won comfortably. Unofficial tallies had the Kazakh well ahead. Then came the shock. Judges Kermit Bayless (96-93), Chris Migliore (95-94), and Don Trella (97-92) all inexplicably sided with Franklin.

How all three carded for Franklin is a mystery. Fans instantly branded the unanimous verdict a robbery, with Franklin having done nothing to deserve the win.

For Dychko, dropping to 15-1 under these circumstances is a bitter blow. He did more than enough to keep his perfect record intact, only to see it stripped away by baffling scoring.

Franklin, now 24-2, escapes Las Vegas with a victory many view as hollow, a win that brings scrutiny rather than credibility.

The controversy adds yet another layer to the ongoing debate about judging standards, with this decision sure to be a topic of discussion for days to come.

TURKI ALALASHIKH REVEALS HOW MUCH CANELO'S BEING PAID TO FIGHT TERENCE CRAWFORD

The boxing world is buzzing ahead of one of the biggest fights of the year as Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez takes on Terence Crawford in what is being billed as a clash of two of the sport’s best pound-for-pound fighters.

Canelo, the undisputed super middleweight champion, will face Crawford, the undefeated welterweight, in a fight that promises high-quality action, worldwide attention, and of course, huge sums of money. Fans are eagerly anticipating the match-up, which could define legacies and shake up the sport’s pound-for-pound rankings.

The fight is not only historic inside the ring, but also away from it. At the pre-fight press conference, Turki Alalshikh, chairman of the Saudi Arabian General Sports Authority, confirmed that Canelo is set to earn a purse that will likely rank among the top 10 in boxing history, solidifying his position as one of the highest earners in the sport.

The announcement came during the pre-fight press conference when a reporter addressed Alalshikh: “You can be on Saturday the historic person that will award Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez for the first time, a Mexican sports figure, with a guaranteed purse of at least a hundred million dollars.” Alalshikh quickly corrected the figure, saying: “No, you get the number wrong. The contract between us and Canelo, more than that.” The statement left no doubt that Canelo is set to secure a record-breaking payday just for showing up to the event, let alone winning.

After the purse confirmation, the spotlight turned to Crawford, who took a respectful and gracious tone. He praised the support he receives from his fans in South America and congratulated Canelo on both his titles and his historic financial milestone. Despite being the challenger, the American emphasised the significance of the occasion for boxing fans worldwide, putting the mutual respect between the two fighters on show, even though the reported $50 million he is taking home is less than half of what Canelo will be scooping up.

The Mexican's guaranteed purse will likely be one of the largest in combat sports history, reflecting not only his dominance across multiple weight classes, but also his global appeal and commercial power. Crawford, meanwhile, benefits from competing on one of boxing’s biggest stages, gaining worldwide exposure and the chance to challenge one of the sport’s pound-for-pound best, something he isn’t new to doing after dispatching Errol Spence Jr in nine rounds back in 2023.

This weekend’s fight promises to deliver excitement in the ring and headlines outside of it. With combined purses of over $150 million, the bout will rank as one of the biggest in boxing history. Crawford’s recognition of his opponent’s achievement and their mutual respect only adds to the sense of occasion, setting the stage for a showdown that will be remembered on multiple levels.

Fans around the world will be watching closely, as Canelo and Crawford put their legacies on the line. Whether it’s for the titles, the historic payday, or the chance to witness two elite fighters clash, this is a fight that’s destined to make waves in the boxing world.

COACH REVEALS TERENCE CRAWFORD PLANS TO RECREATE KNOCKOUT WIN IN CANELO ÁLVAREZ SUPER FIGHT

Photo by Al Bello/Getty Images for Netflix

Terence Crawford will need to be at his shimmering best to topple Canelo Alvarez this weekend in ‘Sin City’, and one of his coaches is expecting just that, in fact.

Making his first venture to the super middleweight limit, former undisputed welterweight kingpin Terence Crawford will challenge Canelo Alvarez in the blockbuster clash of the year, with all title spoils up for grabs.

Testing light middleweight waters before his fight with the Mexican megastar, Crawford had run roughshod continually during his lengthy era of dominance at welterweight.

And ahead of his fight with Canelo, ‘Bud’ has been backed to emulate arguably his most iconic performance in the ring thus far.

Terence Crawford backed to beat Canelo Alvarez as badly as Errol Spence Jr.

Eventually fighting for the undisputed welterweight crown back in 2023, Crawford turned in one of the most heralded in-ring performances of the modern era

Taking on the unbeaten Errol Spence Jr., Crawford added the WBA, WBC, and IBF welterweight titles to his trophy cabinet, inflicting a ninth-round knockout loss on the Long Islander — having put him on the canvas countless times during the clash.

And against Canelo this weekend at 168lbs, Crawford’s coach, Chet Fortune, gave quite a candid prediction of the performance the Nebraska native is likely to give.

Ultimately making the leap to 168lbs, Crawford has been touted as undeniable in the gym and in the ring by Fortune when it comes to his pugilist peers.

“When it comes to Bud, I know he’s willing to work harder than anyone else; willing to do whatever it takes; he doesn’t have any quit in him; and then he has a support system that he trusts around him,” Fortune explained.

Bonus up for grabs for Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford pup

With both Canelo and Crawford expected to pocket sizable fight purses for their efforts this weekend in Las Vegas, an added incentive has been tabled, too.

As disclosed by event organizer Turki Alalshikh, if either Canelo or Crawford finish the bout via knockout, they will receive a lucrative financial bonus on top of their fight purse.

However, for Canelo, the Mexican would be forced to snap a lengthy run of decision wins, dating all the way back to his most recent knockout of Caleb Plant, to win undisputed gold in 2021.
