F1: THREE-TIME FORMULA ONE CHAMPION NIKI LAUDA DEAD AT 70


One of the greatest drivers in Formula One and three-time Formula One Champion Niki Lauda has passed away at age 70...



The champion's health was declining before he passed away on Monday. 

Motorsport has lost an icon and he will be forever remembered by the Motorsport fraternity in the world . 

Lauda was a non-executive chairman of Mercedes Benz team and he also had a 10% stake. 

He was an entrepreneur in the aviation world whereby he owned Lauda Air, Fly Niki and Laudamotion airlines and he was a pilot as well. He used to pilot his planes in the 60's. 


He had a life threatening accident at the 1976 German Grand Prix that left him burnt with life threatening third-degree injuries and after that incident he went to win two Formula One championships. 

Lauda won in 1977, 1977 & 1984. He won with team Ferrari & McLaren.


He joined Ferrari in 1974 after opting out of family paper manufacturing business. He came from a wealthy family in Vienna, Austria.

Niki has won 3 world championships, 25 wins, 54 podiums, 24 pole positions and 171 races.

"Niki will forever be in our hearts and enshrined in our history," tweeted McLaren F1 team.
