KOKE BRYANT NO. 8 VS. KOBE BRYANT NO. 24 | KOBE IS THE BEST BASKETBALL PLAYER EVER TO GRACE THE COURTS, NEXT TO MICHAEL JORDAN

Scott Brooks: "You can argue the [Lakers] had the best player ever to play the game [Kobe] for 20 years..."

Pat Riley: "He ranks right there with Jordan."

David Stern: "Kobe is there with Michael."

Dr. J.: "[Kobe's] as good as anyone who's ever played. Let's put it that way."

George Gervin: "He set himself apart from everyone else."

Kevin Durant: "How do you not say [Kobe and Jordan] are by far better than anybody who's played the game?"

Isaiah Thomas: “I mean, he’s the greatest of all time in life and in basketball."

Adeyemi Adediran (B/R 2010): "KOBE BRYANT IS THE GREATEST PLAYER TO EVER TOUCH A BASKETBALL."

Jerry Rice: "Greatest of all time. You have to earn that title, and I think Kobe did that."

Randy Moss: "Kobe Bryant is the best basketball player that I've ever seen dribble a basketball."

Mark Jackson: "I never thought I would say it playing against Michael Jordan for so long, but Kobe Bryant at the end of the day...will go down as the greatest basketball player that has ever lived."

Mark Schlererh: "One time, one game, I'm taking Kobe Bryant."

Paul Pierce: "If a game is on the line and I need one game, I want Kob."

Steve Smith: "He's the best, most fundamentaly [sound] player I've ever played against or watched."

Kendrick Perkins: "Most skilled to EVER play the game, it's not even a debate."

Chauncey Billups: "I think Kobe is more skilled than any player that's ever played."

Phil Jackson, when asked if Kobe has better basketball skills than Michael Jordan: "He does."

Vince Carter: "I mean, I still have to give it (GOAT) to Michael Jordan, with a close Kobe Bryant 2nd."

Paul Westphal: "Who is to say Kobe Bryant isn’t going to be better than Michael Jordan? Let’s get that out on the table right now. He’s a lot better than Jordan was at the same age."

Shaq: "If you want to have that conversation (GOAT), there has to be another name added to that - Kobe."

Rip Hamilton: "Whoever voted Kobe [at 10] flat out disrespected him...when Magic comes out and says Kobe is the best Laker of all-time, that means better than him and better than the guy Magic played with, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar."

Rudy Tomjanovich: "I truly believe [Kobe] has the chance to become the greatest player to ever play the game."

Greg Anthony: "Kobe Bryant is the most complete basketball player the game has ever seen."

Shaq: "You know what, I had the greatest player ever. We could've won six or seven championships, but you live, and you learn."

Allen Iverson: "I don't understand how they don't have the debate when it comes to Kobe."

Mike Breen: "It's starting to happen again Mark, the conversation, the debate on is [Kobe] as good as Michael Jordan. It's been blasphemy to say it, really about anybody, but it's an actual discussion you can have now.

Mark Jackson: "Well, I said it a year and a half ago. No way in the world would I ever put anybody in the conversation with Michael Jordan, but Kobe Bryant is there. He's as good as Michael Jordan on any given day. I said to Bryant yesterday,, 'it's almost like Larry Holmes and Muhammad Ali.' He looked at me and said, 'I'm not Larry Holmes.' And he is 100% right. It is two Muhammad Ali's when you talk about Jordan and Bryant."

Grant Taylor (B/R 2011): "Players that come to mind are Bill Russell, Wilt Chamberlain, Jerry West, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Michael Jordan.

But I've now officially put Kobe Bryant on this list, and judging by the title of this article, it is clear I'm not just saying he belongs with these players.

No.

Kobe Bryant is the greatest and most legendary of all these players."

Charles Barkley: "Kobe Bryant is the best player I’ve ever seen other than Michael Jordan."

Matt Barnes: "To me, Jordan is 1, and Kobe is 1B."

Phil Jackson on who he'd pick to start a team with between Kobe and Jordan:

“I’d do a coin flip, and whichever one came up heads or tails, I would take that person.”

CHAUNCEY BILLUPS ARRESTED IN MAFIA LINKED BETTING PROBE: WHERE IT RANKS AMONG GREATEST SPORTS SCANDALS

Credit: John Hefti-Imagn Images

In what could turn out to be one of the biggest scandals in sports history, Portland Trail Blazers head coach Chauncey Billups has reportedly been arrested in relation to a federal sports betting probe.

Early on Thursday morning, reports emerged that Miami Heat guard Terry Rozier was picked up by federal officials regarding his involvement in illegal sports betting on NBA games. The investigation has been going on since the summer, and Detroit Pistons guard Malik Beasley was linked to the inquiry until authorities revealed he was no longer part of the investigation.

However, soon after the news about Rozier’s arrest came a bombshell. Current Trail Blazers head coach Chauncy Billups has also been arrested over allegations of illegal bets on NBA games. Interestingly enough, ABC News is reporting that his arrest is connected with a separate FBI investigation, and this one actually has worrisome links to the mafia.

That is the only information that has been leaked regarding his arrest. However, the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Brooklyn, New York, and FBI Director Kash Patel are scheduled to hold a press conference to unveil further information on the case.

The five-time NBA All-Star and one-time champion is obviously innocent until proven guilty. However, if a court does find wrongdoing, it will be one of the biggest sports scandals of all time. But where does it rank among the most egregious in sports history?

Where does Chauncey Billups’ arrest rank among the greatest sports scandals?

Obviously, the worst of the worst is the 1919 “Black Sox” scandal when eight Chicago White Sox players purposely threw games during that year’s World Series. Pete Rose is the greatest pure hitter in MLB history, but he was banned for life — until this year — after it was found he had bet on games he was involved in as manager of the Cincinnati Reds.

After winning shockingly winning the 2006 Tour de France, former Lance Armstrong teammate Floyd Landis was found to have been doping his way to the championship. In hindsight, it wasn’t too surprising since Armstrong also doped himself into becoming a cycling legend.

Arguably, the worst in NBA history was when a federal investigation found that veteran referee Tim Donaghy used his influence on games to alter scores for illegal sports betting purposes.

Pro athletes being involved in illegal betting is only shocking because they don’t need to, since the majority of them are millionaires. While Donaghy’s offenses were stunning, it does make sense because referees aren’t wealthy, and they can have such a huge but hard-to-notice influence on games. Billups, who made around $100 million during his career and is paid well now, being involved really is bewildering.

More information will be revealed soon, but if the NBA coach was involved in a scenario to alter games, and it was connected to organized crime, it would be a top-five scandal in sports history.

GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Final Four Saturday began with the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame Class of 2024 announcement in Glendale, Ariz.

The 13 honorees include former NBA stars Chauncey Billups (now head coach of the Portland Trail Blazers), dunk specialist Vince Carter, former Los Angeles Lakers defensive guru Michael Cooper and Phoenix Suns legend Walter Davis.

Carter, an eight-time All-Star who scored 25,728 points in 22 seasons, found the day to be highly emotional.

"It's mind-blowing for me," said Carter, the 1999 Rookie of the Year with the Toronto Raptors. "I enjoyed playing the game of basketball every day. I'm just overjoyed."

Billups was known as "Mr. Big Shot" as a player due to his clutch nature. Billups was a five-time All-Star and the 2004 NBA Finals MVP when he led the Detroit Pistons to the title.

"It really is crazy," said Billups, who played 17 NBA seasons. "I've spent a lot of the past few days being speechless knowing I was going into what I call 'Basketball Heaven.'"

Cooper was one of the NBA's top defenders during his 12 seasons. He was part of five championship teams with the Los Angeles Lakers.

Davis was a six-time All-Star during 15 NBA seasons. The 1978 Rookie of the Year is still the leading scorer (15,666) in Phoenix Suns history.

Former New York Knicks star Dick Barnett also was inducted.

Former Wisconsin head coach Bo Ryan and Louisiana high school coaching legend Charles Smith are to be inducted as coaches. Ryan won 747 overall games as a college coach, while Smith won nine high school championships in Louisiana.

Four-time WNBA champion and eight-time All-Star Seimone Augustus also earn induction into the Hall of Fame.

The late Harley Redin, who coached the Wayland Baptist women for 18 seasons, also will be entering the Hall of Fame.

Former WNBA star Michelle Timms was chosen by the Hall of Fame's International Committee. Former coach, player and broadcaster Doug Collins, Indiana Pacers owner Herb Simon and player/executive Jerry West were named as contributors.

West is the first member of the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame to be inducted as a player and contributor.

The induction ceremonies are Aug. 16 and 17 in Springfield, Mass., and Uncasville, Conn.
