MAN UNITED COMES BACK TO BEAT CRYSTAL PALACE AS ZIRKZEE STUNNER ENDS GOAL DROUGHT

Glyn KIRK

Joshua Zirkzee scored in the Premier League for the first time in almost a year to spark a comeback 2-1 win for Manchester United at Crystal Palace on Sunday.

The Dutch forward hadn’t scored in England’s top flight since a double against Everton on Dec. 1 last year. But he ended his drought with a stunning strike in the 54th minute at Selhurst Park to level the game after Jean-Philippe Mateta put Palace ahead from the penalty spot in the first half.

Mason Mount struck the winner nine minutes later as United ended Palace’s 12-game unbeaten home run in the league.

Zirkzee produced a moment of individual brilliance to fire United back into the game when collecting the ball in the box, spinning and scoring from a tight angle. It was only his eighth goal in all for United since joining from Bologna last year and his first this season.

He was in United’s starting XI following injuries to forwards Benjamin Sesko and Matheus Cunha and delivered one of his best moments in his time at the club.

Mount scored the decisive goal following a free kick - firing low from the edge of the area after a layoff from Bruno Fernandes.

Mateta had given Palace the lead with a twice-taken penalty in the 36th. The France international was adjudged to have double-kicked his original spot kick and was directed to retake as per the rule clarification that came in after Julian Alvarez’s accidental double touch in a shootout against Real Madrid last season helped to eliminate Atletico Madrid from the Champions League.

In 2021, after a challenging season and still reeling from the tragedy of a few years prior, they were relegated from Brazilian football's top tier, dropping to the second division.

2025 would be the year of miracles. In the final round of the tournament, they achieved an incredible victory that secured them a spot in the promotion places by just one point. This triumph sealed their promotion and marked their return to the top division of Brazilian football.

MAN UNITED STAR SPOTTED 'LIKING' POST MOCKING RUBEN AMORIM FACES SUSPENSION

One Manchester United defender was spotted 'liking' a post that ridiculed manager Ruben Amorim for his tactical decisions

Patrick Dorgu faces a one-match Premier League suspension if he picks up another yellow card. It comes as the defender seemingly 'liked' a social media post mocking Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim. The Denmark international's Instagram account engaged with content criticising Amorim's decision to deploy Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro as a midfield partnership.

The post, published by 'mufcunion', featured a comment from X stating: "Any coach that sees Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes as a viable pivot is one that isn't serious."

The Instagram post's caption declared: "Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro CANNOT play together," which received a 'like' from the 21-year-old full-back's profile. Dorgu must now navigate his own challenges as he treads carefully ahead of Sunday's clash with Crystal Palace.

Should the left-back be shown a yellow card against the Eagles, he would be ruled out of United's home encounter with West Ham on Thursday. Amorim is yet to address Dorgu's social media activity, though many would suggest he has more pressing concerns given United's current form.

The Red Devils currently sit in 10th position after sliding down the table following a series of disappointing results. United had enjoyed significant momentum earlier in the campaign, defeating teams such as Liverpool, Brighton, and Sunderland during an impressive winning streak.

However, stalemates against Tottenham and Nottingham Forest halted this progress before it completely collapsed following their 1-0 defeat to Everton.

Despite Idrissa Gueye receiving his marching orders in the 13th minute following a confrontation with team-mate Michael Keane, United failed to make the most of their numerical superiority and succumbed to a 29th-minute effort from Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.

A fresh test now lies ahead against fifth-placed Palace, with United needing to deliver their finest performance against last season's FA Cup champions. With the Red Devils entirely committed to domestic matters, having failed to secure European qualification this campaign, Amorim requires his full squad at his disposal as he seeks to guide the club back up the league standings.

Ahead of the Palace encounter, Amorim said: "They are a different club [to us] and they are doing things better than us so that is quite simple."

"We play in a different way and they are just doing things better than us. They are doing things really well and they play more in transition than us. We have to look at all of these things when we compare our teams but of course, in every position, we can do so much better."

When asked whether his side possessed an edge due to their absence from European competition, the Portuguese manager added: "I said the same thing last year when we were in Europe and I say the same thing this year: there [is an] advantage and disadvantage of not being in Europe. There are no excuses. We have to always win games.""

EAGLES FANS WON'T LOVE JALEN HURTS'S POST-BEARS 'NOT IDEAL' DECLARATION

After taking an ugly loss to the Chicago Bears on Black Friday, Jalen Hurts dropped a line about the Eagles not being on the same page.

On paper, Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts outgunned Caleb Williams on Black Friday. Hurts finished out the game with more completions on fewer attempts, recording one more touchdown with the same number of interceptions to go with an RTG of 84.2, which is 27.3 higher than the Chicago Bears' signal caller's 56.9.

And yet, in the NFL, what matters above all others is winning, and Hurts' team came out on the wrong end of that equation thanks in no small part to the Super Bowl MVP not being on the same page as some of his receivers.

Discussing his inability to connect with DeVonta Smith on a crucial down-the-field pass, Hurts told NBC Sports' John Clark that he and his collegiate wide receiver simply weren't operating the same proverbial channel.

"It was two guys on two different pages, and that's a bit of the issues that we've kind of been having. We weren't detailed enough in that, I wasn't detailed enough in instructing him on what to do as we prepared and making myself clear on that, and so I'm trying to find as many particulars as I can when it comes to the level of execution we have, and that's a group effort that has to be there.”

Asked if it's an issue that the Eagles aren't in rhythm at this stage of the game, Hurts admitted that, yeah, it's not ideal, but then again, all the team can do is work on it and go from there.

“It's not ideal. It's not something that you desire, but going off of how the flow this year is going, it's kind of similar to my response last week and saying ‘No' of any surprises of where we are. It's just a matter of picking ourselves up, and continuing to press forward, and staying together in it, and being committed to it.”

While Hurts and Smith clearly missed on some key throws, “Smitty” wasn't the only Eagle who missed on an important play, as Saquon Barkley dropped a brutal screen that couldn't have helped save a drive, and even Brown finished out the game 10-12. Is playcalling an issue in Philadelphia? Yes, as is their seeming inability to run the ball, but the pass game is far from ideal at this stage of the game, which doesn't spell great work when the playoffs roll around.

QUALIFYING NATION TO BOYCOTT 2026 WORLD CUP DRAW AMID ROW WITH DONALD TRUMP

The Iranian football federation are set to boycott next week's draw for the 2026 World Cup in Washington D.C. The news comes amid an ongoing dispute with the country's President, Donald Trump.

Iran, who qualified for the competition for the fourth successive time in March, are one of 19 nations whose citizens are restricted from entering the United States next summer after a travel ban was announced by the President in June 2025. Haiti, who qualified for the tournament in November after a 2-0 win against Nicaragua, also find themselves in the same predicament.

An exemption to the ban was set to be granted for "any athlete or member of an athletic team, including coaches, persons performing a necessary support role, and immediate relatives, traveling for the World Cup, Olympics, or other major sporting event as determined by the secretary of state." But in October, the US denied the Iranian delegation entry for the World Cup draw, which is set to take place on the 5th December.

Iranian Federation Now Set to Boycott World Cup Draw

World Cup - Asian Qualifiers - Group A - Iran v North Korea - Azadi Stadium, Tehran, Iran - June 10, 2025 Iran players pose for a team group photo before the match Majid Asgaripour/WANA (West Asia News Agency)

The report at the time stated that the list of people denied entry to the US included the federation's president, Mehdi Taj, national team coach, Amir Ghalenoei, and seven other officials. After taking the issue up with FIFA president Gianni Infantino, Ghalenoei and four others were granted a visa, but Taj and three individuals were still denied one.

A spokesperson for the country's football federation, Amir Mehdi Alavi, told the Tehran Times, via the Guardian, how the decision to reject the application was, "unrelated to sport," with the move potentially leading to Iran withdrawing from the competition completely.

"We have informed Fifa that the decisions taken are unrelated to sport and that the members of the Iranian delegation will not participate in the World Cup draw."

Amid the uncertainty created by Trump's travel ban, Infantino met with the President earlier in November to discuss a faster visa interview process for those travelling to the US for the World Cup. FIFA have since confirmed the creation of the FIFA Pass, which will give ticket holders for the competition priority access to the visa applications process. But they are not guaranteed to be successful, with the government recently announcing that Haiti fans applying for entry will not be granted special circumstances to attend matches.

Trump Set to Join Infantino for World Cup Draw

So far, 42 teams have qualified for the 2026 World Cup, which is set to take place across the United States, Canada and Mexico next summer between June and July. The six remaining spots will be decided through play-offs, with four set to be filled by European nations, while two will be awarded via an inter-confederation mini-tournament.

Every country, qualified or not, is set to discover their opponents at the tournament next week, though, with President Trump joining Infantino at the John F Kennedy Center for the draw. Due to the competition's expansion to 48 teams, the draw is expected to take 45–50 minutes, as nations are drawn into groups A to L.

The full fixture list of group games and kick-off times will be made available after the draw, while an updated match schedule will then be released on 6th December, confirming which stadium will be assigned to each game.

QATAR GP: SPRINT QUALIFYING RESULTS

Oscar Piastri Mercedes after a strong lap, while Norris completed the top three.

Fernando Alonso qualified fourth for Aston Martin ahead of Red Bull’s Yuki Tsunoda, who outqualified teammate Max Verstappen for the first time in either sprint or grand prix qualifying. Kimi Antonelli was seventh, with Carlos Sainz, Charles Leclerc, and Alex Albon rounding out the top ten.

Isack Hadjar narrowly missed out on SQ3 after having his final lap deleted for exceeding track limits, finishing 11th, while Oliver Bearman, Gabriel Bortoleto, Nico Hulkenberg, and Esteban Ocon were eliminated in SQ2.

Lewis Hamilton continued his difficult 2025 campaign, failing to escape SQ1 and ending up 18th behind Lance Stroll and Liam Lawson, who missed SQ2 by just seven hundredths of a second. Pierre Gasly and Franco Colapinto also fell in the first segment.

The session featured a hint of gamesmanship between Norris and Verstappen, with both drivers complaining about impeding each other in the early stages. The incidents were investigated, but no further action was taken. Verstappen also struggled with porpoising and had a lap deleted for exceeding track limits, leaving him sixth.

The Qatar Sprint Race gets underway at 5pm local time on Saturday (1am AEDT Sunday).

OSCAR PIASTRI REJECTS MCLAREN AT QATAR GP: WILL NOT HELP LANDO NORRIS WIN TITLE

Oscar Piastri at the Drivers Press Conference ahead of the F1 2025 Mexico City Grand Prix | McLaren F1 Team

Oscar Piastri says he will not help Lando Norris try to win the Formula 1 world title at the 2025 Qatar GP, as the Australian rejects any suggestion of papaya rules from McLaren in the Middle East with a firm denial.

Norris comes into the weekend knowing if he leaves with a 26-point advantage over Piastri and Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, he will become the team’s first champions since 2008 and the first British champion since 2020.

However, there was a setback in Las Vegas last time out as both of Zak Brown’s cars were disqualified for falling in breach of the FIA’s regulations regarding floor plank wear limitations.

Exceeding the 9mm tolerance, both cars had no leg to stand on and were subsequently DSQ’d in the United States – despite initially crossing the line after 50 laps in second (Norris) and third respectively.

It’s an outcome that has put Verstappen back in striking distance after his chances of winning the crown appeared remote, in the face of what was an impressive comeback at the time after he left August’s Dutch GP 104 points off the pace.

He is tied with Piastri on the same points total but behind on countback, meaning the Australian is also somewhat in the hunt, even as his own chances appear to be dwindling with races running out and poor form.

That prompted questions that Andrea Stella’s McLaren team should consider using the 24-year-old as a strategic weapon to try to fend off Red Bull’s defending champion in the final two rounds.

But this is not something Piastri is keen on as he shoots down suggestions he will help Norris at the 2025 Qatar GP, as he rejects proposals of papaya rules to ensure his McLaren colleague wins the F1 2025 title.

“We’ve had a very brief discussion on it,” Piastri told media, including Total-Motorsport.com. “And the answer is no.

“I’m still equal on points with Max and I’ve got a decent shot of still winning it if things go my way so, yeah, that’s how we’ll play.”

Can Piastri still win the F1 2025 title as he refuses to help Norris at Qatar GP?

Piastri comes into this Sprint Race weekend in Qatar knowing the pressure is on as he cannot afford to lose two more points to Norris in the standings if he hopes to become Australia’s first world champion in over 40 years.

That means even if he finishes third and Norris finishes second, it’s over. If he finishes fourth and Norris third, it’s over. If Norris wins, both he and Verstappen can forget about it for this year.

That’s how fine the margins are now but despite the odds being stacked against him, he still has the belief he can win the title. Of course, all it takes is one bad moment from his teammate for Piastri to be the championship leader again.

“I think there’s still a chance, and it’s played out that way a couple of times before,” Piastri added. “I know it’s not impossible. Obviously I also know that it’s a bit of an outside shot.

“I can’t just rely on having a perfect final two weekends… I need other things to go my way, and I’m very aware of that.

“I’m just going to try and have the best weekends I can, which I try and do every weekend, and see what happens to everyone else.”

PORTUGAL CROWNED U-17 WORLD CHAMPION

"I think it will be difficult for this achievement to be matched," said coach Bino Maçães, after leading the team to European and world titles in the same year

Portugal’s national male U-17 football team has been crowned the new world champion after beating Austria in a tense final in Doha, Qatar on Thursday afternoon (November 27).

A lone goal by Anísio Cabral, who scored seven goals in the U-17 World Cup, was enough to secure Portugal’s first world champion title in the U-17 age group, just a few months after the same team won the European title.

Coach Bino Maçães was delighted by his team’s performance.

“It is fantastic. It was a great job by the boys. We knew the final would be very difficult after a very exhausting tournament. But they were fantastic. I think it will be difficult for this achievement to be matched,” he told Canal 11 after the match.

“We completely deserved to win this final. For everything they have done, I hope these players will also have a fantastic future, because that is what matters,” he added.

The achievement was also celebrated by Portuguese Prime Minister, Luís Montenegro, who highlighted the “talent, ambition, effort, drive and success” of the national U-17 team in a post on his X account.

“Congratulations Portugal, world U-17 champions! These brave Portuguese young men showed how the future of Portugal is posed to be great, also in football,” he wrote.

Portugal booked its place in the final by knocking out Brazil on penalties (6–5) after a tense 0–0 draw in the semis. Before that, they swept past Switzerland (2–0) in the quarters, Mexico (5–0) in the round of 16, and Belgium (2–1) in the last 32. Portugal finished second in Group B, behind Japan, but ahead of Morocco and New Caledonia, both beaten by wide margins (6–0 and 6–1).

EXCLUSIVE LOOK AT THE AIR JORDAN 10 "UNC" PLAYER EXCLUSIVE

Image via UNC Basketball

The Air Jordan 10 "UNC" PE surfaces in images that highlight the rare player exclusive and its Chapel Hill inspired design.

The Air Jordan 10 "UNC" PE returns to the spotlight with a new set of images that show why this pair sits in a special tier. The silhouette has always carried a different kind of weight in Jordan history.

The sneaker represents a moment when Michael stepped away from the game, yet the design still honored his legacy. That story gives every PE extra meaning, especially when it ties back to his North Carolina roots. UNC pairs always hit a nostalgic nerve.

The colors connect two eras of Michael’s life. They call back to his time in Chapel Hill while still sitting firmly in the Jumpman lineage. That mix gives any UNC themed model a clean sense of identity.

The Air Jordan 10 adds another layer, since the shoe represents a chapter built on milestones and reflection. Player exclusives remain a rare item as only athletes and insiders tend to see pairs like this in person.

That scarcity fuels the energy behind every "UNC" PE reveal. New photos of this Air Jordan 10 show why that excitement never fades. The suede hits look bold under the arena lights.

The classic Jumpman branding sharpens the look even more. The images above capture all of these details and remind everyone why UNC themed PEs always command attention.

This Air Jordan 10 "UNC" PE uses a mix of white leather and carolina blue suede. The upper features crisp black accents along the collar and tongue.

The mudguard and midsole use black to anchor the bright colors. Also, the outsole carries alternating blue and black stripes. The lateral side features a white stitched Jumpman.

The heel liner comes in soft blue fabric. Further the tongue tag uses a black base with a silver Jumpman. The inner pull tab helps finish the clean build. Every detail stays consistent with UNC’s signature palette.

LIVERPOOL SACK AGREEMENT REACHED AFTER ARNE SLOT DISASTER VS PSV

Liverpool were thrashed 4-1 by PSV in the latest disappointment for Arne Slot's side.

Steve McManaman and Steven Gerrard reached an agreement that it remains "too early" to consider sacking Liverpool boss Arne Slot. The Dutch head coach faces mounting scrutiny following the Reds' ninth loss in 12 matches, the latest being PSV's commanding 4-1 triumph at Anfield. Former Liverpool captain Gerrard echoed his ex-Anfield colleague's view on the Slot's position. However, he suggested that "serious questions" would be posed to the Premier League-winning coach.

Following the setback against the Eredivisie outfit, the Reds have now slipped outside the automatic qualification spots for the Champions League last-16. In European competition, Liverpool must navigate challenging away fixtures at Inter Milan and Marseille before hosting Qarabag at Anfield in their final group match.

Slot is facing growing demands to be removed from his position at Anfield following a sequence of nine losses in their previous 12 outings. Nevertheless, McManaman and Gerrard were quick to support him.

"I think no. I think it's far too early, what he's achieved and where he is now this year, that's a good run of fixtures," said McManaman.

"I understand the question completely but with that run of fixtures, Liverpool still fighting in the Champions League, it's far too early to come up with a question like that. They will have to be knocked out of the Champions League and wallowing at the bottom of the league.

"I think they play Arsenal second week in Jan, that's when the question should be asked. Hopefully they'll have climbed the table. You have to give him time for the signings, who have constantly been injured, they're ones you'd expect to come in and lift the team.

"If anything, they've detracted from the team, they look lobsided. It's far too early to ask a manager that question when he's achieved so much in a small space of time, I do understand the world we live in, that question will be bandied around."

Gerrard added: "That's the world we live in, that's football in the modern day. I've been in that position myself.

"You understand that if you're not getting the results, there is going to be serious questions asked, stewards inquiry, that comes with the territory especially at the top end.

"I agree Macca, from me and you because we lived through it and suffered. I've been both sides. It's going to come."

Liverpool skipper Virgil van Dijk was at fault for the opening goal as the visitors endured yet another dreadful start, following the Dutchman's handball inside the box.

Dominik Szoboszlai struck back to level matters for the Reds before Cody Gakpo, Hugo Ekitike and Van Dijk threatened prior to half-time. Alexis Mac Allister, Van Dijk and Gakpo all had chances to put Liverpool ahead.

But they were unable to capitalise and PSV punished a series of mistakes from Liverpool as Guus Til and a Couhaib Driouech brace made matters worse for Slot.

MCLAREN CLAIM FIA TO INVESTIGATE POTENTIAL RULE CHANGE AFTER LAS VEGAS DISQUALIFICATION

McLaren was issued the most severe F1 penalty last weekend in Las Vegas as both of its cars were disqualified from the race.

Getty Images

McLaren team principal Andrea Stella has claimed the FIA is investigating the possibility of making a rule change following its double disqualification in Las Vegas.

Both Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri were disqualified from the race after their skid blocks were found to be excessively worn.

F1 skid blocks are not allowed to be less than 9 mm in thickness at the end of every race, and the automatic penalty for exceeding the allowance is disqualification.

McLaren had no grounds to argue the case due to how technical infringements are managed in F1, leading to the Woking-based squad's painful removal from the race classification.

However, Stella has stated the FIA is exploring the possibility of handing out lesser penalties depending on the scale of the irregularity and the performance gained by doing so.

“We verified together with the technical delegate, that the measurement of the skid thickness was correct,” Stella said.

“Even if the excessive wear is relatively minor and in only one location, (as it was 0.12 mm for Lando and 0.26 mm for Oscar), the regulation is very clear that the rear skids need to be at least 9mm at the end of the race in every location.

“Unlike sporting or financial rules – there is no proportionality in the application of penalties for technical regulation infringements.

“The FIA itself has admitted that this lack of proportionality should be addressed in the future to ensure that minor and accidental technical infringements, with minimal or no performance benefits, do not lead to disproportionate consequences.

“It should also be remembered that the FIA itself emphasised that the infringement was not intentional, there was no deliberate attempt to circumvent the regulations, and there were also mitigating circumstances, as we explained to the event stewards.”

McLaren DSQ not due to an 'unreasonable chase of performance'

McLaren has faced an increased threat from Max Verstappen in the drivers' championship following the summer break, who has closed the gap on the McLaren pair over the last handful of rounds.

Following McLaren's disqualification, Verstappen now sits 24 points down on the championship lead with two rounds to go.

The Dutchman has won four of the last seven grands prix, while McLaren has won just two races in the same period.

Stella asserted McLaren's disqualification in Las Vegas was not a result of chasing performance to hold back the four-time champion's threat.

“What happened in Vegas was due to an anomaly in the behaviour of the car, rather than it being the outcome of an excessive or unreasonable chase of performance,” Stella asserted.

“Our way of acting and thinking as a team, with a strong focus on performance, has brought us to where we are today, namely winning two consecutive constructors' titles and having two drivers at the top of the championship with two races to go.

“We, as a team, constantly learn from experience and we calibrate our approach all the time and we will certainly use any information gained through the situation experienced in Vegas.
