ARSENAL ESTABLISH CONTACT FOR BRADLEY BARCOLA MOVE

Arsenal will attempt to sign 23-year-old French international Bradley Barcola from Paris Saint-Germain this summer after being snubbed by Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior.

According to a report by TEAMtalk, Bradley Barcola is also the subject of interest from Liverpool. The Reds are eager to bolster their offensive unit by signing a wide attacker in the ongoing transfer window, and they have their sights set on the 23-year-old Paris Saint-Germain winger.

Per TEAMtalk, the Merseyside giants remain the front-runners in the battle for Barcola’s signature, even though Arsenal have contacted his camp to discuss a deal. Meanwhile, the report has added that PSG continue to hold out for €150 million to sell the Frenchman in the coming weeks.

Bradley Barcola has established himself as one of the world’s best young wingers since joining PSG from Lyon in August 2023. The 23-year-old hit the ground running at Parc des Princes, and he has made exponential progress in the last three seasons. Even though he has not been an undisputed first-choice starter, his pace, work rate, and technical ability have won him widespread recognition while making him a valued asset.

Barcola scored 13 goals and provided 7 assists in only 2,971 minutes of game time across 49 appearances in all competitions during the 2025/26 season. The French winger carried that form into the 2026 FIFA World Cup, making his mark in France’s campaign. Meanwhile, his exploits have provoked interest from several high-profile clubs, with Arsenal and Liverpool among the prospective suitors vying for his signature.

Premier League move on the horizon?

Bradley Barcola has been on Arsenal’s wishlist for several months. The continued interest makes logical sense, as the Gunners need a productive attacker on the left flank after Gabriel Martinelli’s struggles in the 2025/26 season. Paris Saint-Germain hosted Bayern Munich for the first leg of the 2025/2026 UEFA Champions League semi-final at Parc des Princes.

Widely gaining popularity as one of the most entertaining games in football history, this fixture had it all, with the hosts edging past their competitors with a 5-4 win.

PSG and Bayern have two of the most ruthless attacking trios in Europe this season, as evidenced by the quality, speed, and effectiveness of their attacking moves on the night.

Both sides, on several occasions, opened up their opponents with ease, which made for a nerve-wracking game overall.

Through this tactical analysis, we aim to discuss Paris Saint-Germain’s and Bayern Munich’s approach to the game, areas both sides struggled in, and find out where Bayern can hurt PSG in the second leg.

PSG and Bayern share similar identities in their approach to the game.

Both sides are brilliant examples of total football, showcasing frequent positional rotations both in and out of possession.

An example: Vitinha, a centre-midfielder, operates in the wide channel.

He attracts multiple opponents before moving the ball to the half-space.

Meanwhile, the winger moves into the half-space.

For Bayern, Kane frequently dropped deep into midfield to offer an additional option for progression.

Whenever the centre-backs followed him, other teammates exploited the space higher up the pitch.

This was the case with Bayern’s defenders as well.

During a build-up situation for PSG, both Bayern centre-backs (Upamecano and Tah) follow an opponent each deep into the mid-third, while Stanisić also follows an opponent in the half-space.

With defenders from both sides jumping in this manner, there were multiple instances when they delayed the opposition’s progression or even won the ball.

However, there were also scenarios where the opponent bypassed the pressure and went straight to a counterattack.

IKONÉ STUNS PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN AS PARIS FC REACH FRENCH CUP LAST 16

Former Paris Saint-Germain academy product Jonathan Ikoné struck a late winner against his old club as Paris FC shocked the holders 1-0 on Monday to book their place in the last 16 of the French Cup.

Paris Saint-Germain academy product Jonathan Ikoné came back to haunt his former club on Monday, scoring the only goal in Paris FC’s 1-0 win over their city rivals at the Parc des Princes.

Substitute Ikoné stabbed home in the final 20 minutes to stun the dominant, record 16-time winners and reigning champions, who had controlled much of the contest.

PSG lost their first home match in the competition since 2022 and suffered their first last-32 defeat since 2014.

“We’re really happy, we managed to defend well,” Ikoné told France Télévisions.

“I’m really happy with my goal, just a joy, and I hope it’s not my last goal,” he added.

Before kick-off, the hosts’ former captain Mamadou Sakho — who began his career at Paris FC before crossing the city — announced his retirement on the pitch.

The sides had met earlier this month in the first top-flight Paris derby since 1990, when Désiré Doué and Ousmane Dembélé scored in a 2-1 win for the Champions League holders.

Since then, PSG have lifted the French Champions Trophy, edging rivals Marseille on penalties in Kuwait last Thursday.

Newly promoted Paris FC, backed by luxury goods group LVMH and Red Bull, sit 15th in Ligue 1, two points above Nantes in the relegation play-off place.

Luis Enrique’s side dominated the first half, with Georgia winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia threatening without breaking the deadlock.

Paris FC winger Alimami Gory had the visitors’ best early chance before being forced off injured five minutes before the interval, replaced by Ikoné.

Ten minutes into the second half, a sloppy pass from Paris FC centre-back Moustapha Mbow gifted PSG a golden opportunity, but goalkeeper Obed Nkambadio punched away Gonçalo Ramos’ curling effort.

With PSG still on top with 15 minutes to play, Paris FC broke on the counter and Ikoné poked home to make it 1-0, refusing to celebrate against his former club.

During seven minutes of injury time, Doué went inches away from an equaliser with a header before Nkambadio produced another superb save to deny Vitinha’s long-range strike, capping a stellar individual performance.

In the final match of the round, Marseille travel to sixth-tier Bayeux, with the tie moved elsewhere in Normandy and played in front of a full house at Caen’s Stade Michel-d’Ornano.

Bayeux, home of the centuries-old tapestry, are the lowest-ranked team left in the competition, with the draw for the last 16 taking place before kick-off in northern France.

On Saturday, former Wolves coach Gary O’Neil began his reign as Strasbourg manager with a 6-0 win over fourth-tier Avranches.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia scored one of the great Champions League goals as Paris Saint-Germain came from behind to beat Aston Villa 3-1 in the first leg of their quarter-final tie on Wednesday. Morgan Rogers had given Villa a 35th-minute lead at the Parc des Princes to silence the home fans, but PSG were quickly back level through a fine strike by Desire Doue. Kvaratskhelia then took centre stage with a stunning effort on 49 minutes, before Nuno Mendes added a crucial third in stoppage time, giving PSG a significant two-goal cushion to take into the return in Birmingham next Tuesday.

Having eliminated Liverpool in the last 16, Luis Enrique's team are now in a very strong position to reach the semi-finals for the second season running.

"We are happy with this result but we have to keep going because there is the second game and the job is not finished," Kvaratskhelia told broadcaster Canal Plus, before claiming he could not clearly recall his sublime goal.

"It was was OK. I didn't remember it exactly but now I will check inside so I will see if it was quite good."

Villa, who had Prince William in the Paris crowd backing them along with his son George, will need to produce a memorable fightback at home if they are to make the last four of Europe's elite club competition for the first time since they lifted the trophy in 1982.

"We managed to get the opening goal which is about the hardest thing to do, but we were up against a great team. You have to admit that," Lucas Digne told Canal Plus.

"They produced moments of brilliance. Now we have to do the job in the return. We will have to open up a bit more but it is still doable."

Villa can perhaps take inspiration from what happened the last time their coach Unai Emery faced Luis Enrique in the Champions League.

Back in 2017, Emery's PSG thumped Barcelona 4-0 at home in the first leg of a last-16 tie, only to collapse at the Camp Nou and lose 6-1 to Luis Enrique's Catalans.

The latter, now hoping to lead PSG to their first Champions League crown, was without suspended skipper Marquinhos here and also left Bradley Barcola on the bench for the first time in this European campaign.

That meant Doue and Kvaratskhelia completed the home attack along with leading scorer Ousmane Dembele.

Villa came into this game on a run of seven straight wins in all competitions, as Marco Asensio, on loan from PSG, started as a substitute against his parent club.

The visitors were happy to sit back and the first half took place almost exclusively in their half, with Dembele setting the tone from a sizzling early strike which was tipped over by Emiliano Martinez.

The Argentinian goalkeeper, a hero for his country in the 2022 World Cup final against France, was loudly jeered throughout and had a busy night.

However, Villa snatched the lead against the run of play in the 35th minute.

Captain John McGinn robbed Mendes just inside the Villa half and picked out Marcus Rashford on the left. He then slipped in Youri Tielemans whose ball across the face of goal left Rogers with an easy finish.

PSG hit back quickly, with Martinez nearly spilling a Doue shot over the line before the equaliser came from the resulting corner.

The hosts worked the ball from right to left to Doue, who stepped towards the penalty area before curling a wonderful shot beyond Martinez into the far corner.

It was the latest moment of magic from the 19-year-old, who recently won his first France cap, but his strike was eclipsed by that of Kvaratskhelia as the Georgian put PSG ahead four minutes after half-time.

Emery replaced Matty Cash at half-time with the right-back having been booked for a foul on Kvaratskhelia.

Axel Disasi came on but had no answer as Kvaratskhelia was released on the left by Fabian Ruiz and advanced into the box.

The former Napoli winger mesmerised Disasi as he rolled his studs over the ball before smashing a thunderous shot past Martinez, in off the near post.

Villa sent on a raft of substitutes including Asensio as they tried to find a way back into the game, while Achraf Hakimi had an effort disallowed for the hosts.

Dembele then released Mendes to round Martinez and make it 3-1 in stoppage time, leaving PSG with one foot in the semi-finals.

Four days after reaching the final of the 2025 Coupe de France, Paris Saint-Germain's constellation of international stars are set to wrap up a record 13th top-flight crown. Just before the game against Angers on Saturday afternoon at the Parc des Princes, protesters are expected outside the stadium to complain about a PSG sponsorship deal with the international marketing arm of the Rwandan government.

PSG's anticipated stroll to glory comes as part of the preparations for next Wednesday's Champions League quarter-final clash against Aston Villa – who sport several nicknames including 'The Villans'.

PSG diehards would consider it a crime against footballing justice were their heroes to head to the second leg in Birmingham, central England, without a healthy advantage over The Villa – one of the other sobriquets.

In February, in the last-16 of the Champions League, PSG outplayed Premier League pacesetters Liverpool, who sit a good 20 points ahead of Aston Villa in the English championship, to reach the last eight.

The tie finished 1-1 on aggregate and when PSG won the penalty shoot-out, there was unanimity amongst analysts and pundits that the better side over two legs had advanced.

On Friday, PSG boss Luis Enrique urged the players to keep the focus and intensity that has brought a 27-game unbeaten streak in Ligue 1.

“Maintaining this level will help us better prepare for the final of the Coupe de France and a possible Champions League semi-final,” said the 54-year-old Spaniard.

Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Lee Kang-in played 30 minutes in the second leg of the 2024-25 Champions League knockout stage playoffs against Brest, where the Ligue 1 champions secured a dominant 7-0 victory at Parc des Princes in Paris on Wednesday, sealing a 10-0 aggregate win.

PSG now advance to the round of 16, with the next round draw set for Friday.

The round of 16 fixtures will begin on March 4, followed by the quarterfinals on April 8 and the semifinals in late April through early May.

MBAPPÉ ANNOUNCES PSG EXIT AHEAD OF LIKELY REAL MADRID MOVE

 Kylian Mbappé has announced he is leaving Paris Saint-Germain at the end of the season, after which he is expected to join Real Madrid.

The announcement brings Real Madrid closer to ending their yearslong pursuit of the France international, who is widely regarded as one of the best players in world football.

PSG face Toulouse at the Parc des Princes on Sunday, which will be Mbappé's final home game. His final game for the club is scheduled to be the French Cup final against Lyon on May 15.

He said in a video posted to Instagram: "Hi everyone, it's Kylian. I wanted to speak to you. I've always said that I would speak with you when the time comes and so I wanted to announce to you all that it's my last year at Paris Saint-Germain.

"I will not extend and the adventure will come to an end in a few weeks. I will play my last game at the Parc des Princes on Sunday.

"It's a lot of emotions, many years where I had the chance and the great honour to be a member of the biggest French club, one of the best in the world which allowed me to arrive here, to have my first experience in a club with a lot of pressure, to grow as a player of course, by being alongside some of the best in history, some of the greatest champions, to meet a lot of people, to grow as a man as well with all the glory and the mistakes I've made."

Mbappé thanked all five managers he has played for at PSG -- Unai Emery, Thomas Tuchel, Mauricio Pochettino, Christophe Galtier and Luis Enrique -- as well as the club's sporting directors.

He added: "Despite everything that can happen on the outside, all this media hype that surrounds the club sometimes, there are some real club lovers who want to protect it and make it shine, and it's great, and I know that with all these people, this club is in great hands.

"It's hard, and I never thought it would be this difficult to announce that, to leave my country, France, the Ligue 1, a championship I have always known but I think, I needed this, a new challenge, after seven years."

That new challenge is likely to come in Madrid. Sources told ESPN Mbappé is still expected to join Madrid, having been in negotiations with the club since at least February.

In 2017, after starring for Monaco, Mbappé came close to joining Madrid, but he chose PSG instead after the club agreed a world-record deal for a teenager, worth €180 million.

Mbappé went on to become PSG's club captain and all-time top scorer with 255 goals, winning six Ligue 1 titles in seven seasons.

At international level, he won the World Cup with France in 2018 and scored a hat trick in their World Cup final defeat to Argentina four years later.

After the video was published, Mbappé went to the Parc des Princes with his family where he joined the club's Ultras in their end of the season BBQ and thanked them for their support.

"It's a club that I will keep in my memory my entire life. I will tell everybody, my whole life, that I had the chance to play here and I won't be a player anymore, but I will continue to watch every game of course, because it's a club that I will always be interested in and I will always closely follow up its news," Mbappé added.

"It was me, with my qualities and defects, but I tried to give the best version of myself during those seven years. But beforehand I want to say thank you because without you all I would have never experienced half of the emotions I felt. And just for that, I am grateful for life. Thank you all.

"I hope we will finish this year with a last trophy. We are going to have good moments for what's left, and believe that you will remain in my heart forever. Ici c'est Paris. Goodbye."

PSG FAVOURITES TO REACH SEMIFINALS DESPITE BARCELONA WIN - XAVI

 Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez said Paris Saint-Germain remain favourites to win the teams' Champions League quarterfinal tie, despite his side winning Wednesday's first leg 3-2 in the French capital.

Raphinha scored twice and substitute Andreas Christensen headed the winner the 77th minute at the Parc des Princes to give Barcelona the edge heading back to Spain for the second leg next week.

"PSG are still the favourites," Xavi said in his postgame news conference. "It will be very difficult to win in Barcelona.

"Today we played well because we were united defensively. I'm very proud, everything worked well. We have to improve our concentration in the first minutes of the second half. We managed to mature and recover from a match that became very difficult."

Barcelona, who beat Napoli in the round of 16, are seeking to reach their first Champions League semifinal since 2019 following back-to-back group-stage exits.

"I hope the ghosts have died," Xavi added. "We've gone through difficult years in the Champions League recently. This win shows that Barça are still alive."

PSG looked to have recovered from Raphinha's opener when Ousmane Dembélé equalised in the 48th minute against his former club. Three minutes later midfielder Vitinha put PSG ahead from Fabián Ruiz's pass in a pulsating match where Dembélé also hit the left post moments before Christensen's winner.

"We are not happy with the defeat," PSG manager Luis Enrique, who won the treble with Barcelona in 2015, said. "The second leg will be like a final now, it's our objective. I have no doubt that we can qualify. I congratulate Barcelona for their win and their performance.

"We could have done better and we will have to improve some things for the second leg but I'm still satisfied by what I saw tonight. We controlled well our emotions I thought but the game swung on details. The manager is also responsible for the results. I chose players because I thought they would be best for this game but it didn't work. We changed our plans at half-time and we scored two goals."

Luis Enrique refused to comment on Kylian Mbappé's performance, as the France captain was shackled by Barcelona's defence and had little impact on the game.

However, he said that Barça were not necessarily favourites even with a win in hand and the home field advantage.

"We are going to go to Barcelona to fight a war," he said.

"I never see the opposition as favourites, whoever they are. In top-level competition, that's how I see it. And I will continue to believe that we will go to Barcelona to win the game.

"I repeat. We could have won this game. [Football] is about small details and let's hope that the small details go our way in the second leg."
