49ERS HEAD COACH KYLE SHANAHAN INVILVED IN CAR CRASH, SUFFERES SEVERAL INJURIES

None of the injuries Shanahan suffered are life-threatening and his duties will be limited during training camp

San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan was involved in a car accident last week in which he suffered several injuries, none of which are life-threatening, the team announced on Saturday.

Shanahan, 46, sustained a broken nose, three broken ribs and a broken hand. He also required over 40 stitches in his face and suffered a severe concussion, according to ESPN.

General manager John Lynch will meet with reporters on Saturday afternoon to discuss the developments.

In a statement, the 49ers announced that assistant head coach Chris Foerster would handle Shanahan's head-coaching duties while Shanahan recovers, along with several coordinators on the staff.

"San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan was involved in a car accident last week where he suffered non-life-threatening injuries," the statement read. "Coach Shanahan will participate in team activities on a limited basis at the start of training camp while he recovers. Coach Shanahan and the 49ers organization would like to sincerely thank all first responders involved for their efforts and care.

"Assistant head coach Chris Foerster, along with team coordinators, will handle head coach responsibilities during this period."

The accident occurred on July 14, ESPN's Adam Schefter and Nick Wagoner report. Shanahan's vehicle collided with an SUV near his home in northern California. He was taken by paramedics to a local hospital and spent most of the day there until he was released.

The other driver involved in the accident was not injured, according to Palo Alto police. Drugs and alcohol were not involved, both drivers were cooperative with law enforcement and no one was cited in the collision.

"Consistent with our standard release of information procedures in such cases, we do not release information regarding the cause of the collision, or which party may have been at fault," said Palo Alto lieutenant Nicholas Martinez, via ESPN.

Shanahan reportedly informed the 49ers assistant coaches of the accident on Tuesday. He has been recovering at home and is apparently recuperating well, but doctors will not clear him to participate in training camp activities until he is free of concussion symptoms. The 49ers open training camp on Sunday.

Foerster, 64, is in his second stint with the 49ers, joining Shanahan's staff in 2019 as a game-planning assistant before being promoted to offensive line coach. He added run coordinator duties in 2022 and three seasons later was moved up to assistant head coach.

Shanahan is going into his 10th season as 49ers head coach and has compiled an 82-67 regular-season record. He is 11 victories away from overtaking Bill Walsh for second on the team’s all-time list and 17 away from most in franchise history.

Cardinals' Masyn Winn Gets In Car Accident After Game-Winning Hit, Uninjured

St. Louis Cardinals player Masyn Winn was involved in a car accident hours after saving the day for his team ... with the organization announcing the shortstop was uninjured in the wreck.

The Cards released a statement on the matter ... stating 24-year-old Winn was traveling on Interstate 64 and Highway 40 when wet pavement caused him to crash.

The team said Winn was alone in the vehicle at the time of the accident ... and local authorities responded to the scene, as well as Cardinals staffers and security.

Winn was taken to a nearby hospital to get checked out ... and fortunately, he did not sustain any serious ailments.

Winn was fresh off getting the Cards a win over the New York Mets at home ... hitting a blooper to right field in the bottom of the 11th inning to bring in a run and secure the 2-1 victory.

St. Louis has Thursday off ... and it's expected Winn will be evaluated again before the Cards' road series against the Detroit Tigers to see if he'll be good to go.

KIMI ANTONELLI INVOLVED IN A CAR CRASH BEFORE BAHRAIN TESTS

Kimi Antonelli was involved in a road accident in San Marino just days before the Bahrain Grand Prix weekend. The incident occurred while he was driving his AMG GT 63 PRO Motorsport Collectors Edition when the car hit safety barriers. The crash immediately raised concern given the timing.

According to reports Antonelli was checked by medical staff shortly after the incident. He was confirmed to be in good condition with no serious injuries. That confirmation quickly eased worries across the paddock and among fans.

Despite visible damage to the vehicle the driver himself escaped unharmed. Sources close to the situation stressed that this was a road incident and not related to any on track activity. The focus shifted quickly from speculation to recovery and readiness.

Most importantly Antonelli is expected to take part in the upcoming Bahrain tests as planned. Teams see this as a key phase for preparation and there is no indication that his schedule will change. His physical condition has been cleared with no restrictions.

The moment serves as a reminder of how quickly situations can change in motorsport. While the accident was serious enough to draw attention the outcome could have been far worse. For now Antonelli moves forward focused and ready for Bahrain.

FORMER WOLVES PLAYER ETHAN MCLEOD HAS TRAGICALLY PASSED AWAY AT THE AGE OF 21

 

The youngster, who has spent this season with Macclesfield FC in the National League North, lost his life following a car accident last night.

The attacker first joined Wolves at the age of seven, entering at the pre-academy stage, and progressed through the system to sign a professional contract with the club in January 2023.

During his time with Wolves McLeod worked closely with now academy director Jon Hunter-Barrett and former coach Wolves, leading to him representing England at youth level.

In September 2024 McLeod’s time with Wolves came to an end and he went on to represent Rushall Olympic and Stourbridge, before joining Macclesfield in the summer.

He played for the Silkmen seven times this season, scoring three goals, and was on the bench against Bedford Town on Tuesday, before he tragically passed away when travelling home later that night.

Ethan’s younger brother Conor is currently in Wolves' under-21 squad and the whole club will be providing care and support to him and his family.

Hunter-Barrett said: “We’re absolutely devastated as a club and academy with the news of Ethan’s passing. He was in our academy programme for a long time, and his brother Conor is on our books now, so we’re incredibly sad for Conor and his family.

“We’re respecting his family’s privacy at this moment in time, but we’ll support them in any way possible moving forward. We’ll be there for them and Conor, because they’re a massive part of our club.  

“Nobody will have a bad word to say about Ethan. He had a warm heart and was incredibly caring and considerate. He was a talented young man, who got on well socially with everyone in the academy, staff and players, because he was such a loving character.

“Ethan was a talented footballer. He had injuries towards the end of his time here, but as a young player he developed early and progressed to representing England at youth level and played up the age groups at Wolves.

“Our thoughts go out to Conor, Ethan’s family and friends, and everyone at Macclesfield FC, because they’ll be devastated with the tragic news too.”

A minute’s silence will be held prior to Wolves’ Premier League clash with Brentford at Molineux this weekend.
