Christian Horner is "amazed" by the decision of ending the British Grand Prix at Silverstone in 2019...
In doing so he said the British Racing Drivers' Club risks opening up the London street circuit...
Chairman of BRDC, John Grant, says that possibility is not there...
"Most informed observers would say a London event is just not feasible - politically, environmentally or commercially" said Grant
He also said Silverstone "sustained losses of 2.8m pounds in 2015 and 4.8m pounds in 2016, and we expect to loose similar amounts this year."
The British Racing Drivers' Club said they can no longer afford to race after 2019 unless they get a new contract...
Horner says "They singed a contract. They knew what they were entering and the've no realised they can't afford it, despite having a full house every year."
He went on to say "They either shouldn't have signed it in the first place or they got their maths wrong."
The British Racing Drivers Club had a contract up to 2027 and in the contract there is a clause that allows them to brake-off in 2019...
Liberty Media tried very hard to get BRDC to stay but the Club says none of the offers were 'satisfactory'...
"From Liberty's perspective, this is a historic problem rather than something recent. Silverstone gets favourable rates anyway. It is hard to imagine they lose money putting 120,000 people in there, plus all the corporates and everything else during the course of the weekend.
"I'd question how it's been managed and the negotiations they had in the first place."
Fans will surely miss Silverstone maybe a better deal will take shape as we move along the season...
