TIGER WOODS TO MAKE 2025 SEASON DEBUT AT THE GENESIS INVITATIONAL

Feb. 7 (UPI) -- Tiger Woods will tee up for his 2025 season debut at The Genesis Invitational next week at Torrey Pines Golf Course in San Diego, he said Friday on social media.
Woods made the announcement just three days after the death of his mother, Kultida. Woods, host of the annual tournament, missed the cut in July at the British Open, his last PGA Tour tournament appearance.
He made just five tournament appearances last season before undergoing season-ending back surgery. Woods, 49, played alongside son Charlie, 15, in December's PNC Championship.
He also participated in two matches alongside his Jupiter Links Golf Club teammates in TGL, the new tech-infused golf league he co-founded with Rory McIlroy.
The Genesis Invitational will be held Feb. 13 to 16 at on Torrey Pines South Course. Hideki Matsuyama is the defending champion. Woods withdrew in 2024 because of illness.
The tournament is normally played at the Riviera Country Club, but was moved because of the southern California wildfires.

Tiger Woods withdrew from the second round of The Genesis Invitational at Riviera on Friday due to illness, bringing an abrupt end to the 15-times major champion's first PGA Tour start since last April's Masters.
Woods was one over par through six holes and had just teed off at the par-four seventh hole when he decided to call it quits and was then carted away by a rules official with his head buried in his hands.
The 48-year-old Woods, who is also serving as tournament host this week, dealt with back spasms in Thursday's first round, which he finished eight shots back of the leader and in a share of 49th place after a one-over par 72.

Jordan Spieth admitted to signing for the wrong score at The Genesis Invitational at Riviera on Friday as the former U.S. Open champion was disqualified for the first time in his career.
The PGA Tour said that the former world number one had signed at the end of the second round for a three on the par-three fourth hole when he had made a four.
Spieth's disqualification was his first in 263 tournaments played on the PGA Tour.
"Today, I signed for an incorrect scorecard and stepped out of the scoring area, after thinking I went through all procedures to make sure it was correct," the 30-year-old wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
"Rules are rules, and I take full responsibility.
"I love this tournament and golf course as much as any on the PGA Tour so it hurts to not have a run at the weekend."
Tiger Woods will also be missing from the final two rounds of the tournament after the 15-times major champion withdrew on Friday due to illness.
