The historic achievement unfolded on Thursday night during the Thunder’s dramatic 104-102 victory over the Boston Celtics. NBA: KON KNUEPPEL SETS ROOKIE 3-POINT RECORD AS HORNETS ROLL PACERS

Kon Knueppel set the NBA single-season rookie record for 3-pointers and Brandon Miller matched a season high with 33 points, fueling the Charlotte Hornets to a 133-109 victory over the Indiana Pacers on Thursday in Indianapolis.
Knueppel highlighted his 28-point performance by matching his own franchise rookie record with eight 3-pointers, boosting his season total to 209 -- three more than Keegan Murray's mark in 2022-23.
Knueppel was the fourth overall pick of the 2025 NBA Draft by the Hornets, who have 22 games remaining on their regular-season schedule.
Miller, who scored 19 points in the third quarter, made 11 of 19 shots from the floor for the game and 6 of 11 from 3-point range. His point total on Thursday matched his output on New Year's Eve, set in Charlotte's 132-125 setback to the Golden State Warriors.
LaMelo Ball collected 20 points and eight assists and Moussa Diabate contributed 14 points and 11 rebounds for the Hornets, who extended their franchise-best road winning streak to nine games.
Charlotte, which has won three in a row overall and 13 of its last 16 games, shot a robust 55.8% from the floor (48 of 86) and 47.8% from 3-point range (22 of 46). The Hornets also held a decisive 46-37 advantage in rebounds.
Indiana's Andrew Nembhard contributed 20 points and seven assists and Micah Potter added 19 points off the bench.
Jarace Walker added 16 points for the free-falling Pacers, who have dropped five in a row and nine of their last 11 games.
Indiana played without Pascal Siakam (left wrist sprain) and Aaron Nesmith (sprained right ankle).
The Pacers claimed a 34-31 lead after the first quarter before the Hornets responded with a dominant display in the second. Grant Williams sank a 3-pointer on consecutive possessions at one point before Knueppel drained his fifth 3-pointer to cap the scoring and give the Hornets a 67-46 advantage at halftime.
Knueppel etched his name into the record book by using a brilliant pump fake before calmly sinking a 3-pointer late in the third quarter to push Charlotte's lead to 103-77. He capped the Hornets' 40-point quarter with a turnaround jumper with 1.7 seconds to play.
Knueppel added his seventh and eighth 3-pointers early in the fourth as Charlotte coasted to victory.

JOKIC SETS NEW NBA TRIPLE-DOUBLE RECORD IN NUGGETS OT VICTORY OVER WOLVES

Nikola Jokic compiled 56 points, 16 rebounds and 15 assists as the host Denver Nuggets rallied from nine down in overtime to beat the Minnesota Timberwolves 142-138 on Thursday night.
The 30-year-old centre produced the first NBA game ever with at least 55 points, 15 rebounds and 15 assists. Jokic also logged the third-highest point total ever registered on Christmas Day, behind 60 points from Bernard King in 1984 and 59 from Wilt Chamberlain in 1961.
"It was a crazy game, and it’s a little bit late, so it’s nice to finish off with a victory,” Jokic said postgame on ABC.
It was the 15th triple-double of the season for Jokic. He now has 179 in his career during the regular season and 21 in the postseason.
Jamal Murray finished with 35 points and 10 assists for the Nuggets, who had lost two of their previous three games.
Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards scored 24 of his 44 points in the fourth quarter and overtime before picking up his second technical foul with 21 seconds left in the extra session.
Julius Randle scored 32 points, Jaden McDaniels added 21 points and Rudy Gobert had 12 rebounds for Minnesota, which had won three straight.

Brunson scored 13 of his 34 points over the final 7:15 for the Knicks, who mounted their biggest comeback win of the season. Reserves Jordan Clarkson (25 points) and Tyler Kolek (16 points, nine assists) had big games while Karl- Anthony Towns (11 points, 14 rebounds) posted a double-double.
Donovan Mitchell scored 34 points for the Cavaliers, who blew a pair of double-digit leads and lost a game they led entering the fourth quarter for the first time this season. Darius Garland recorded a double-double with 20 points and 10 assists while Jaylon Tyson (16 points), Evan Mobley (14 points, nine rebounds in his return after a five-game absence) and De’Andre Hunter (13 points) all got into double figures off the bench.

De’Aaron Fox scored 29 points as San Antonio handed reigning NBA champions Oklahoma City back-to-back losses for the first time this season.
The Spurs have won eight consecutive games – which does not include the NBA Cup final loss to the New York Knicks on December 16 – to extend their longest winning streak since 2018-19. Three of the Thunder’s five defeats this season, including both of their last two, have come to San Antonio.

Stephen Curry lost a personal scoring duel with Cooper Flagg in their first head-to-head matchup, but joined with Gary Payton II to stall a late rally as Golden State held off Dallas in San Francisco.
Curry led the Warriors with 23 points in Golden State’s 13th consecutive appearance in the NBA holiday showcase. After the Mavericks closed within 110-104 with 4:28 to play, Payton converted a Draymond Green pass into his momentum-swinging dunk and Curry bombed in a 26-footer on Golden State’s next possession to reopen a double-digit lead with 3:45 left.
Flagg went for a game-high 27 points and Brandon Williams added 26 for the Mavericks, who lost Anthony Davis for the game after he experienced right groin spasms in the fourth minute of the second quarter. He finished with three points, three rebounds and two blocks in 11 minutes.

Amen Thompson scored a game-high 26 points and Kevin Durant added 25 as visiting Houston never trailed Los Angeles to cap a 2-4 road trip on a good note.
Jabari Smith Jr notched 16 points while Alperen Sengun contributed 14 points and 12 rebounds as the Rockets transformed a 10-point halftime lead into an 81-58 lead on Smith’s tip-in with 5:52 left in the third quarter.
Luka Doncic paced the Lakers with 25 points and seven assists while LeBron James posted 18 points in his 19th Christmas Day game. Austin Reaves scored 12 points in the first half, but did not play in the second half due to left calf soreness. The Lakers were outrebounded 48-25.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — LeBron James reached 40,000 points Saturday night, still going strong in his 21st NBA season as he tries to put the career scoring record out of reach.
James drove past Michael Porter Jr. and hit a layup with 10:39 left in the second quarter of the Los Angeles Lakers’ 124 loss to the Denver Nuggets for the historic basket.
“Being the first player to do something, it’s pretty cool in this league, just knowing the history, the greats that’s come through the league, and then you see some of the greats on the floor tonight, it was great to compete,” James said. “But for me, the main thing, as always, is to win, and I hated that it had to happen in a defeat.”
James did it in 1,475 regular-season games, reaching double-digit points in each of the last 1,205 of them. He has largely avoided major injuries in that time, while also playing another 3 1/2 seasons worth of games in the playoffs en route to four titles in 10 NBA Finals appearances, all with unfathomable pressure placed on him to be the next transcendent player before ever stepping on the court as a professional.

Cameron Johnson scored 24 points and the visiting Brooklyn Nets beat the Pistons 118-112 on Tuesday night as Detroit set a single-season NBA record with its 27th consecutive loss.
Detroit's 27-game losing streak tops the runs of futility of the 2010-11 Cleveland Cavaliers and 2013-14 Philadelphia 76ers, who each lost 26 straight.
Philadelphia holds the longest losing streak of all time, which spanned over the course of two seasons. The 76ers dropped 28 straight between the end of the 2014-15 season and the beginning of the 2015-16 campaign. The Pistons can match that skid when they visit the Boston Celtics on Thursday.
Mikal Bridges had 21 points and Cam Thomas tossed in 17 for Brooklyn. Cade Cunningham carried the Pistons with 41 points, 37 in the second half, while Bojan Bogdanovic had 23 points.
Bulls 118, Hawks 113
Andre Drummond tallied 24 points and 25 rebounds to help lead Chicago past visiting Atlanta.
Drummond became just the sixth player to record a 20-20 game in the NBA this season. DeMar DeRozan added 25 points for the Bulls, who won for the fourth time in five games.

Bogdan Bogdanovic led Atlanta's scoring with 22 points while Trae Young added 21 points and 13 assists. Young was trying to break Oscar Robertson's record of seven consecutive 30-point, 10-assist games but fell short.

Ja Morant scored 31 points and Jaren Jackson Jr. had four of his 19 points in overtime as visiting Memphis improved to 4-0 since Morant's return by defeating New Orleans.
Desmond Bane added 27 points as the Grizzlies beat the Pelicans for the second time in eight days -- the first win coming in Morant's season debut following a 25-game suspension. Brandon Ingram scored 24 points and Zion Williamson had 23 points and 11 rebounds for New Orleans.

Lauri Markkanen amassed 31 points and 12 rebounds and hit four 3-pointers in a decisive fourth-quarter surge to help visiting Utah earn a win over reeling San Antonio.
The Jazz led by a dozen early in the third quarter before San Antonio answered and drew within 100-93 heading to the final period. But the Spurs would get no closer than six, as Markkanen had a 3-pointer and a jumper and Jordan Clarkson added two free throws and a ringing dunk to expand the Utah advantage to 112-99.
Clarkson put up 24 points for the Jazz. Reserve Keldon Johnson had a team-high 26 for the Spurs, who have dropped 23 of their past 24 games.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 34 points to lead Oklahoma City to a win over visiting Minnesota.
Gilgeous-Alexander finished 14 of 19 from the field and added nine assists and six rebounds. Three other Thunder players joined Gilgeous-Alexander with at least 20 points -- Jalen Williams added 21 while Luguentz Dort and Chet Holmgren had 20 apiece.
It was the 14th win in the past 19 games for the Thunder and just the third loss in 14 games for the Timberwolves. Anthony Edwards led Minnesota with 25 points.
Trail Blazers 130, Kings 113
Anfernee Simons scored 29 points and rookie reserve Duop Reath established career highs of 25 points and nine rebounds to help Portland top visiting Sacramento.
In setting a season high for points scored, the Blazers won for just the second time in 11 games. Portland shot 50 percent from the field, including 16 of 40 (40 percent) from 3-point range.
De'Aaron Fox matched his season high of 43 points and made a career-best seven 3-pointers for the Kings. Domantas Sabonis scored a season-best 34 points and added 12 rebounds and five assists for Sacramento, which lost its second straight game and fell for the third time in four contests.
Clippers 113, Hornets 104
James Harden scored 29 points and Paul George added 25 as Los Angeles ended a two-game losing streak without Kawhi Leonard with a victory over visiting Charlotte.
Leonard was out again Tuesday with a left hip contusion as Ivica Zubac contributed 18 points and 14 rebounds for the Clippers, who went 14 of 34 (41.2 percent) from 3-point range. The Hornets went 6 of 29 (20.7 percent) from distance after going 1 of 12 (8.3 percent) in the first half.
Miles Bridges recorded 21 points and 11 rebounds as the Hornets lost their eighth consecutive game. P.J. Washington and Terry Rozier each scored 18 points as Charlotte remained winless since Dec. 8.
