PALMEIRAS, FLAMENGO FIGHTING TO SIGN GABRIEL JESUS
Palmeiras and Flamengo are the major contenders for Arsenal star Gabriel Jesus ahead of the future window, with the striker likely to be allowed to leave.
According to Fichajes, Gabriel Jesus continued to attract big interest from clubs in his homeland, Brazil. It appears Flamengo and boyhood club Palmeiras are the prime contenders for the 28-year-old Arsenal utility man, who could be allowed to leave the North London side for the right offer.
Gabriel Jesus suffered an unfortunate Anterior Cruciate Ligament injury back in January, and he continues to recover from the problem ahead of a possible return at the end of the year. The Brazilian has been a key star for Mikel Arteta, but his influence has waned over the last 12 months or so.
Arteta would be open to selling him, and the club are open to offers if the right proposal arrives on their table. Due to his injury, there weren’t a host of clubs keen on him, but Arsenal are reportedly demanding at least £30-35 million to offload him.
Whether that is something that interested parties will pay remains the question, as the major interest continues to evolve from Brazilian giants Flamengo and Palmeiras. It was the latter where Jesus came through as a player before his move to Manchester City and then to Arsenal.
Flamengo have been interested back in the summer, and they could make a concerted effort to bring him back to Brazil in January, if they can get a deal in place with Arsenal. The prospects of it are a little challenging, given the player’s wages and what the Gunners might demand for his sale.
Palmeiras could be the favourites to land Gabriel Jesus
Palmeiras have the obvious advantage in the race for Jesus, given their past association with the player, and the 28-year-old Arsenal utility man could be open to the idea. However, it may be the finances that play a crucial role, as the Brazilian giants will certainly look at leveraging a deal, given Arsenal does not want the player anymore since the arrival of Viktor Gyokeres in the summer.
It remains to be seen how Arteta plans for the 28-year-old Arsenal utility man’s future, given that he could still integrate him if there is a lack of offers. However, on the front of him moving away, right now, there are only the two Brazilian sides that are keen, although that could change if Jesus proves his fitness in the coming months.

ERIK YEN HAG: EX-MAN UTD BOSS HITS OUT AT BAYER LEVERKUSEN AFTER UNPRECEDENTED EXIT

Freshly departed Bayer Leverkusen manager Erik ten Hag accused the Bundesliga outfit of never offering him any “mutual trust” before he was sacked just two weeks into the new domestic campaign.
Ten Hag was relieved of his duties on Monday morning after collecting one point from his first pair of league games. Never before had a manager from Germany’s flight lasted less than three matches—and Dieter Hecking’s previous record was a positive as he got poached by Hannover 96 after steering Alemannia Aachen to a 3–0 win against his future employers in the third week of the 2006–07 campaign.
The omens were grim for Ten Hag throughout the summer. A humiliating 5–1 loss to Flamengo’s U20 side was sandwiched between an exodus of star figures. By the time Leverkusen had given up a 3–1 lead against 10-man Werder Bremen on Saturday, a game which club captain Robert Andrich described as “misery versus misery,” the writing was on the wall for the former Manchester United boss.
Not that he read the signs. “The decision by Bayer Leverkusen’s management this morning to put me on a leave of absence came as a complete surprise,” Ten Hag wrote in a stinging post on his agency’s Instagram. “To part ways with a coach after just two league matches is unprecedented.

“This summer, many key players who were part of past successes left the squad. Building a new, cohesive team is a careful process that requires both time and trust. A new coach deserves the space to implement his vision, set the standards, shape the squad and leave his mark on the style of play.
“I started this job with full conviction and energy, but unfortunately the management was not willing to grant me the time and trust I needed, which I deeply regret. I feel this was never a relationship based on mutual trust.”
Those feelings were justified. As Leverkusen sporting director Simons Rolfes sensationally revealed 90 minutes after Ten Hag’s departure, the club had discussed sacking a coach appointed on July 1 before this weekend’s collapse in Bremen. “Before we arrive at the wrong destination, we decided to make the decision early,” was the brutal explanation provided.
“Of course, from the impressions from the preseason, from the first few games, we had the feeling that we had to do it now,” Rolfes damningly admitted.
“Throughout my career, every season I have been able to see through to the end as a coach has brought success,” Ten Hag declared in his bitter farewell. “Clubs that placed their trust in me have been rewarded with success and silverware.
“Finally, I would like to thank the Bayer Leverkusen supporters for their warmth and passion, and I wish the squad and staff every success for the remainder of the season.”

CHELSEA MAKE DECISION ON SELLING NICOLAS JACKSON AFTER LEAVING EN

Chelsea are reportedly open to selling Nicolas Jackson after his nightmare cameo in their Club World Cup defeat to Flamengo. Enzo Maresca brought him off the bench in the second half, replacing Liam Delap as the Blues' main striker. It turned out to be an awful decision, with Jackson only lasting four minutes before he was given his marching orders.
A reckless challenge on Flamengo defender Ayrton Lucas left the referee with little choice but to brandish his red card. Jackson was heavily criticised after the final whistle, with former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel branding him 'stupid' in a furious rant. Now, it has emerged that Jackson could soon leave Stamford Bridge with two Italian clubs thought to be circling.
He is 'no longer untouchable' at Chelsea and the west Londoners are open to cashing in on his signature, according to Sky Sport Italia. It is claimed that senior figures are 'considering a future without' Jackson after Juventus and Napoli registered their interest.
Both clubs are said to have reached out to Jackson's representatives to gauge his interest in moving to Serie A. They have asked to be kept informed about the player's situation, with his future in the Premier League seemingly uncertain.
Napoli are said to be eyeing several other attacking targets, including Liverpool forward Darwin Nunez and Udinese marksman Lorenzo Lucca. As a result, a concrete move for Jackson is more likely to come from Juventus.
Only time will tell if Jackson ends up leaving Chelsea over the coming weeks, with the 24-year-old having already issued a public apology for his red card against Flamengo.
On social media, he wrote: "To the club, the staff, my teammates, and all the fans watching, I let you down. Another red card... and honestly, I’m so angry at myself. I work hard every day to help the team not to put us in this kind of situation.
"I still don’t fully understand how it happened. But one thing is clear: it wasn’t intentional. Just a football moment that went the wrong way.
"No excuses. I take full responsibility. I’ll reflect, I’ll grow, and I’ll come back stronger for the badge and for everyone who believes in me. Sorry."
Maresca, meanwhile, took a diplomatic approach when asked if Jackson’s lack of discipline could see him permanently benched in favour of Delap.
"No, the red card has nothing to do with Nico’s future," said the Chelsea boss. "He had the first one against Newcastle when Liam was not even here and another one [against Flamengo].
"I’m not sure that it’s 100 per cent a red card, but the referee decided for that and Nico knows very well that in both situations [it] was not something good for the team."

Nicolas Jackson has issued an apology to “the club, the staff, my team-mates and all the fans” after being sent off during Chelsea’s loss to Flamengo in the Club World Cup.
Jackson, who was sent off against Newcastle in their third-last Premier League match, was brought on after after the hour mark with the scores level. Flamengo scored a second just one minute later and, three minutes after that Jackson raked his studs down the shin of Lucas Ayrton and was immediately dismissed.
Wallace Yan scored Flamengo’s third in a resounding display from the Brazilian giants, leaving the Blues needing a result against ES Tunis in their final Club World Cup group game.
It is the second time in weeks that Jackson has been shown a red card, having been dismissed against Newcastle in an important Premier League game in the race to qualify for the Champions League. Speaking on DAZN as a pundit, former Blues midfielder Mikel John Obi branded Jackson “stupid, stupid, stupid.”
The striker has now apologised. The statement read: “I want to say sorry. To the club, the staff, my teammates, and all the fans watching, I let you down.
“Another red card and honestly, I'm so angry at myself. I work hard every day to help the team not to put us in this kind of situation.

BRAZIL SOCCER PLAYER GABRIEL BARBOSA CLEARED BY CAS TO PLAY DURING APPEAL IN DROPPING RULES CASE

LAUSANNE, Switzerland (AP) — Brazilian soccer player Gabriel Barbosa can resume playing pending an appeal against his ban for a breach of doping rules, the Court of Arbitration for Sport said on Tuesday.
The Flamengo and Brazil forward, known as Gabigol, is challenging a two-year ban imposed in March by an anti-doping tribunal in Brazil.
He was judged to have evaded a doping control in April 2023 and banned until April next year. He denied a charge of doping fraud.
The CAS said its panel of judges “has issued an order granting the request to stay the execution of the challenged decision filed by Gabriel Barbosa.”
The court gave no timetable for an appeal hearing and verdict in the case.
“I stress that I never tried to obstruct or fraud any test. I trust that I will be found not guilty in my appeal,” Barbosa said in March.
Barbosa played in the Brazil team that won the 2016 Olympics gold medal as the home team in Rio de Janeiro, then aged 19 joined Inter Milan. He returned to Brazil in 2019 with Flamengo and has helped the Rio club win two Copa Libertadores titles.

BRAZIL'S BOTAFOGO SQUANDERS A 13-POINT LEAD TO LOSE NATIONAL LEAGUE TITLE

SAO PAULO (AP) — There's an old saying in Brazilian soccer: some things only happen to Botafogo.
The reference to the club's historic lack of luck has never rung more true than this year.
The club of World Cup winning greats like Mané Garrincha, Jairzinho and Mário Zagallo squandered a 13-point lead in the Brazilian league and now Palmeiras is very likely to defend its title on Wednesday. It's the first time a team has lost such a big advantage in the South American nation's top flight.
The last round will take place without any hopes for Botafogo fans at Internacional but to finish in fourth position, which would be enough to secure a direct spot at the next Copa Libertadores. The Rio de Janeiro club is currently fifth.
Botafogo was on the top of the standings for 31 of 38 rounds, giving long-suffering supporters confidence their club would lift its first national title since 1995.
But now Palmeiras is in a position where it doesn't necessarily have to win its last game to secure another title. Even with a loss at Cruzeiro, Palmerias can clinch the league as long as Atletico Mineiro doesn't erase a differential of eight goals.

Former Brazil coach Tite has taken charge at Flamengo after signing a deal through to December 2024, the Brazilian club said on Monday.
The 62-year-old, who left the Brazil team after their quarter-final exit at the World Cup in Qatar last year, replaces Jorge Sampaoli.
"(Tite) arrives to take charge of the team in the final stretch of the 'Brasileirao' and throughout next year's season," Flamengo said in a statement.

The Rio de Janeiro government named an anti-racism law after Real Madrid forward Vinicius Jr on Wednesday which will see sporting events stopped or suspended in the event of racist conduct.
Brazil forward Vinicius was racially abused by fans when Madrid played Valencia in May, the 10th such incident involving the 22-year-old that LaLiga has reported to prosecutors that season.
