Real Zaragoza goalkeeper Esteban Andrada faces a long ban for punching a Huesca player in the face, having already been sent off in a match in the second tier of Spanish league football.
The Argentina international, 35, pushed over Jorge Pulido and was dismissed for the incident on Sunday.
Andrada then became enraged, running to hit Pulido and sparking a brawl on the pitch in stoppage time of the derby clash.
Huesca goalkeeper Dani Jimenez and Zaragoza’s Dani Tasende were also sent off in the aftermath, with hosts Huesca holding on for a 1-0 win.
Andrada, on loan from Mexican side Monterrey, could be banned for up to 12 matches for the punch as well as the obligatory one-match sanction for his red card.
“We witnessed scenes unbecoming of this sport and which should never have occurred,” said Zaragoza in a statement.
“The club strongly condemns what happened in that moment, which has unacceptably tarnished a football match of special importance for our region, something that is unacceptable.
“Regarding our player Esteban Andrada, the club will analyse the events that occurred and take the appropriate disciplinary measures.”
Both Zaragoza and Huesca are in the relegation zone and fighting demotion to Spain’s third tier.

NBA LIKELY TO INVESTIGATE ALTERCATION BETWEEN PISTONS' 'ISAIAH STEWART, SUNS' DREW EUBANKS

NBA officials are expected to review details of an incident that led to Detroit Pistons forward Isaiah Stewart being cited for throwing a punch during an altercation with Phoenix Suns center Drew Eubanks before Wednesday's game between the two games.
Phoenix police Sgt. Phil Krynsky said Stewart and Eubanks argued in the parking tunnel of Footprint Arena as they arrived for the game. Krynsky said witnesses reported seeing Stewart, 22, punch Eubanks, 27, before the players were separated by security officials.
Stewart was arrested on an assault charge, cited and released, said Krynsky, who added Eubanks suffered a "minor injury."
Eubanks played in the game and scored six points and pulled down six rebounds in the Suns' 116-100 win. Stewart had been ruled out ahead of the game with an ankle injury.
"Just walking in and words were said and got sucker punched and security stepped in and that was it," Eubanks said before the game, The Arizona Republic reported.
The Suns issued a statement in support of Eubanks.
"The attack on Drew Eubanks was unprovoked, and acts of violence such as this are unacceptable," the team said. "We unequivocally support Drew, and will continue to work with local law enforcement and the NBA.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Russell Westbrook got into an extended verbal exchange with a fan late in the Los Angeles Clippers’ loss to the Denver Nuggets on Monday night.
Referee Lauren Holtkamp came over and stood between Westbrook and the seats in the final 30 seconds of the game. Two security personnel came on court while former Clipper DeAndre Jordan appeared to encourage an agitated Westbrook to move away from the situation.
