MAN UTD MAKE FIRST CONTACT OVER £50M TRANSFER FOR DAVID DE GEA

David de Gea is looking increasingly likely to leave Manchester United, with his contract set to expire at the end of this month and Erik ten Hag is already searching to sign a new goalkeeper

Manchester United have made contact with Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana to register their interest in signing him.

The Red Devils are preparing to wave goodbye to current shot-stopper David de Gea at the end of June, with his 12-year stay on course to come to end after failing to agree a new contract. De Gea could yet sign a new deal but manager Erik ten Hag is being proactive and identifying targets to become his new first-choice goalkeeper.

Onana, 27, has been shortlisted after working with Ten Hag for the entirety of his four-and-a-half-year reign at Ajax. Comfortable with the ball at his feet and familiar with the Dutchman's system, United appear ready to green-light a move.

"According to the Mail, Old Trafford chiefs have sounded out the Cameroonian but face Inter's £50million asking price. Onana has only been with Inter for one season - and a memorable campaign at that - but the prospect of a reunion with Ten Hag could be enough to prise him away from San Siro.

Helping the Nerazzurri reach this season's Champions League final, the 27-year-old made the most saves in the competition while also helping Inter win the Coppa Italia. Their third-place finish in Serie A guarantees them Champions League football next term, yet the Italian giants remain in financial difficulty.
