JAPAN SHINES AT THE JUDO ULAN BATOR GRAND SLAM 2023


ULAN BATOR, June 25 (Xinhua) -- Japan continued their dominance at the Judo Ulan Bator Grand Slam 2023 as they added four more golds on the second day of the tournament on Saturday.

Japanese Nami Nabekura defeated Hungarian Szofi Ozbas in the women's 63kg final, and Andreja Leski from Slovenia and Gili Sharir from Israel shared the bronze.

QShiho Tanaka won the women's 70kg category, while Lara Cvjetko from Croatia took the silver and the bronze medals went to Maya Goshen from Israel and Madina Taimazova who participated in the event as a neutral athlete under the flag of the International Judo Federation.

In the men's 73kg category, Ken Oyoshi claimed the gold, while Danil Lavrentev, another neutral athlete, took the silver. Bronze medals were shared by host Mongolian Batzaya Erdenebayar and neutral athlete Ayub Khazhaliev.

In the men's 81kg category, Kenya Kohara beat South Korean Lee Joonhwan to take the gold, and Abylaikhan Zhubanazar from Kazakhstan and neutral athlete Alan Khubetsov got the bronze ones.

Along with two golds collected on the opening day, Japan now leads the medal tally with six gold medals, while Canada sits second with one gold and one silver.

The Ulan Bator Grand Slam 2023, which runs from Friday to Sunday, is a qualifying tournament for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, and has a total prize of 154,000 euros (about 168,375 U.S. dollars).
