Former Italian striker Gianluca Vialli has passed away at age 58.
The former Italian star striker was suffering from pancreatic cancer.
Vialli started his career at home with side Cremonese them moved on to much bigger clubs in Serie A, Sampdoria and Juventus, and ended his career at Chelsea.
After Chelsea he moved on to management and coaching. He was chief of delegation at Italy before stepping down to focus on his pancreatic cancer that returned after a shot period of remission.
"The goal is to use all my psyco-physical energies to help my body overcome this phase of the disease, in order to be able to face new adventures as soon as possible and share them with all of you," said on suspending his role with Italy.
His career wiith Italy he managed to score 16 goals in 59 appearances and features in Azzurri's in 1986 to 1990 World Cup squads.
Vialli was the last Juventus captain to win the Champions League. He has so many accolades to his name that Italy consides him as a national hero.
Vialli announced in November 2018 that he had undergone radio therapy and chemotherapy.
