Visitors Vietnam held hosts Indonesia to a 0-0 draw in the first leg of the ASEAN Football Federation(AFF) Mitsubishi Electric Cup semi-final in Jakarta.
Shi-Tae Young is looking to reach second successive final in the Southeast Asian competition.
Better opportunities were availed by Indonesia but they failed to convert them into goals at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium.
Indonesia has never won the competition, but reached the final last year when the tournament was played on a centralised basis in Singapore.
The two teams will meet again on Monday in Hanoi and the winner will face Thailand or Malaysia.
Thailand and Malaysia will face-off on Saturday in Kuala Lumpur.
