TANZANIA AND THE WORLD HAS LOST A RALLY LEGEND | JAYANTILAL NATHALA SHAH SIMPLY KNOWN AS JAYANT SHAH


Tanzania Rally fraternity has lost a legend in the sport, Jayantlal Nathalal Shah, or simply known as Jayant Shah.

Jayant Shah has passed away peacefully in Nairobi  today 10-09-2021. 

Jayant Shah was an Arusha based Industrialist who ran a successful textile factory.

The 78 year-old Shah was taken to Nairobi from Arusha via air and admitted to M.P. Shah Hospital with Covid like complications last week, according to Kenyan media,  he passed away Saturday night.  

In 2019 he was the only driver from Tanzania to participate in the East African Classic Rally with his Porsche 911 navigated by Ravi Chana. 



He truly was the East African Rally legend as he participated in all East African Classic Rally events since inception in 2003. Previous to that it was first called Safar Rally and it started 27 May to June 1 1953.

Among many accolades he was also the Two Wheel National Champion in Tanzania during the 2014 and 2015 seasons. 



He was a true international rally driver, participated in  Zimbabwe Rally, Zambia Rally, Argentina Acropolis Rally, Himalaya Rally, Kenya National Rally and more.

His notable cars were the Datsun 160J, Datsun Violet, Datsun Violet GT, Nissan 160J, Datsun PA-10,  Nissan 200 SX, Nissan 240 RS, Nissan HA-10, Toyota Celica Supra, Datsun 1600 SSS, Datsun 180B, Datsun 260Z, Datsun 240Z and the Porsche 911. 



"Jayant was a very good driver and a respectful person with whom I enjoyed my rallying career. We won the Himalayan Rally in India three times, thrice the Kenyan National Rally Championship and we were jointly voted the Motorsport Personality of the year twice in 1981 and '82," said former Jayants' navigator and Managing Director of Aircraft Leasing Services  (ALS), Aslan Khan
