EDINSON CAVANI BANNED OVER OFFENSIVE INTAGRAM POST

 



Edinson Cavani banned for three months and fined £100,000 for using an offensive Spanish phrase on Social Media.

The Manchester United forward and Uruguay international has pleaded guilty to the Football Association for using insulting/or improper words.

The 33 year old player deleted the post that contained insulting words. 

He sent the message after scoring a goal against Southampton on 29 November. 

Cavani in addition to the fine and ban he has to undergo an education programme, "face-to-face". 

"It was intended as  an affectionate greeting to a friend, thanking him for his congratulations after the game," said the former Napoli and PSG Striker.

"The last thing I wanted to do was  cause offense to anyone. 

"I'm completely opposed to racism and deleted the message as soon as it was explained that it can be interpreted differently."

The FA will not tolerate any racially offensive words from anyone and has "alleged that the comment constitutes an aggravated breach" which "included reference, whether express or implied, to colour and/or race and/or ethnic origin."

He will miss a game with Aston Villa, EFL Semi-Final game against Manchester City and FA third-round tie against Watford.
