SWIATEK HOLDS OFF RYBAKINA TO CAPTURE THIRD STRAIGHT QATAR OPEN CROWN

Top seed Iga Swiatek overcame a gritty challenge by world number four Elena Rybakina to take home the Qatar Open title for the third straight year with a 7-6(8) 6-2 victory in Saturday's final.
The 22-year-old Pole, who raced to her 12th consecutive match win in Doha, became the first player to capture a singles title at an event in three successive years since Serena Williams triumphed in Miami from 2013-15.
The win also improved her head-to-head record over Rybakina to 3-2, having lost on all three occasions last year.
Swiatek endured a slow start as she went 4-1 down in a roller-coaster opening set before the four-times Grand Slam champion slowly found her groove to level things up at 4-4.
After the set went into a tiebreaker, the momentum swung back and forth before Swiatek wrapped up the 90-minute-long set with a well-executed backhand winner.

Top seed Carlos Alcaraz survived his first big test at this year's Wimbledon on Saturday and women's champion Elena Rybakina doused British hopes as the big names moved through the gears into the second week.
Despite more rain on day six, the slow-burner tournament began to heat up with women's second seed Aryna Sabalenka, two-time champion Petra Kvitova and last year's runner-up Ons Jabeur all reaching the last 16.
In the men's draw, third seed Daniil Medvedev and fifth seed Stefanos Tsitsipas both swept through while 2021 runner-up Matteo Berrettini set up a showdown with Alcaraz.

Wimbledon top seed Carlos Alcaraz overpowered Frenchman Jeremy Chardy's and holder Elena Rybakina shook off a slow start to progress as persistent showers severely disrupted Tuesday's schedule.
U.S. Open champion Alcaraz, who topped the world rankings after his Queen's Club triumph last week, crushed Chardy 6-0 6-2 7-5 on Court One and Wimbledon's favourite son Roger Federer received rapturous applause on his return to Centre Court in the Royal Box.
