Former Liverpool star Michael Owen believes foreign coaches, such as Thomas Tuchel, should not be allowed in international soccer.

Tuchel's role with England has come under scrutiny after the team's World Cup loss to Argentina on Wednesday. The Three Lions were leading 1-0 in the semifinal thanks to Anthony Gordon's second-half opener, but Tuchel's substitutions changed the game.

The England boss tried to hold on to that lead by going defensive, but the risky tactic backfired. Lionel Messi was given the space to dictate the game, as Enzo Fernandez and Lautaro Martinez found the net to complete a remarkable comeback in Atlanta.

No foreign coach has ever won the World Cup, a statistic that will remain intact following England's exit.

Upon seeing this fact, Owen took to X and wrote: "There should be no such thing as foreign coaches in international football."

Despite England's loss to Argentina and Owen's opinion, Tuchel has no intention of stepping down after Saturday's third-place playoff against France. He wants to lead England at Euro 2028 on home soil.

"First of all, the World Cup is not over," said Tuchel when asked about his future.

"There is still a match to play, that we are not looking forward to so much to, but there is still a match to play.
