JOSH TAYLOR RETIRES, FULL STATEMENT RELEASED

Former undisputed super lightweight champion Josh Taylor has officially retired from boxing, bringing to a close a remarkable career that saw the proud Scotsman rise to the pinnacle of the sport.

In an emotional message to fans, Taylor confirmed he is hanging up the gloves after ten years in the professional ranks.

Calling Time on a Storied Career

“End of an era. I have lived my dream for the last 10 years and conquered Mount Everest,” said Taylor. “Thank you to every single one of you for the support through what has been this mad rollercoaster of a journey.

“Boxing is all I’ve ever known, but now let’s see what life has to offer on the other side of the ropes.”

Taylor exits the sport as one of Britain’s most decorated modern fighters. The Tartan Tornado became the undisputed 140-pound king in 2021 when he outpointed Jose Ramirez in Las Vegas, adding the WBC and WBO titles to his WBA and IBF collection.

From Prestonpans to the Top of the World

The Edinburgh man joins an elite club of four-belt undisputed champions and remains the only Scottish fighter ever to unify a division fully in the four-belt era.

Despite controversial fallout from his 2022 split decision win over Jack Catterall, Taylor’s place in history was already sealed. He defended the unified crown just once before injuries and inactivity derailed his momentum.

A move to welterweight ended with a brave but wide decision loss to Teofimo Lopez in June 2023. Catterall gained revenge over Taylor before Ekow Essuman ended his career in May 2025.

Eye injuries have hampered any further comebacks.

Tributes have already begun pouring in from the boxing world, with fans and fellow fighters hailing Taylor’s fearless style, granite chin, and ability to take on top-level opposition at every turn.

Josh Taylor’s contribution to British boxing and the global fight scene is immense. From World Boxing Super Series glory to becoming the lineal and undisputed champion, Taylor’s accomplishments ensure his place among UK greats.
