One of the most tragic stories in football:
During a 1994 World Cup match between the USA and Colombia, defender Andrés Escobar accidentally deflected a cross into his own net while trying to block it.
The USA went on to win 2-1, knocking Colombia out of the tournament.
Just days later, on July 1, 1994, Escobar was out with friends in Medellín. After the group split up, he was left alone—and tragically shot six times in what many believe was retaliation for the own goal. 😔
