FORMER GHANA 🇬🇭 COACH KWESI APPIAH AIMS TO LEAD SUDAN TO 2026 WORLD CUP QUALIFICATION

Former Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah has taken on the role of Sudan's national team coach with a clear mission in mind. He aims to guide Sudan to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and secure a place in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Appiah's ambitious goals were disclosed in an interview with Asempa FM, where he emphasised the importance of building a competitive team to achieve these milestones.

"The target I have been given is to build a team and ensure the team qualify for the 2026 World Cup and the next edition of the Africa Cup of Nations," he said.

"The only challenge is that there is no ongoing league due to the ongoing war which has forced them to operate from Saudi Arabia but I hope order and peace will be restored in the country," he added.

However, he acknowledged a significant obstacle in Sudan's football landscape – the suspension of the Sudanese league due to the ongoing internal conflict, which has forced the Sudan Football Association to operate from Saudi Arabia.

Despite this challenge, Appiah remains hopeful that peace and order will be restored, enabling Sudan to pursue its football ambitions.

Appiah is no stranger to the World Cup, as he was the first Ghanaian coach who successfully led the Black Stars to qualify for the FIFA World Cup.

He achieved this remarkable feat in 2013. Appiah's commitment to Sudan's football future and his extensive coaching experience make him a valuable asset to the Sudanese national team.

Appointed as Sudan's coach in September, he signed a three-year deal with the Sudan Football Association. With his track record of World Cup qualification and his clear vision for Sudan's footballing success, Kwesi Appiah is poised to lead the Sudanese team on an exciting journey to the global stage."
