We are deeply saddened by the passing of Weymar Fernando Muñoz Muñoz, President of the Colombian Chess Federation, who served in this role since 2023.
A true professional and a passionate advocate for chess, Weymar’s dedication played a vital role in the development and growth of our game in Colombia. Under his leadership, the country proudly hosted top FIDE events, bringing international chess to new audiences, including wonderful celebrations marking FIDE’s 100th anniversary. One of the most recent milestones was the U16 World Chess Olympiad in August 2025 in Barranquilla.
The International Chess Federation extends its heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and the entire Colombian chess community.
