PARIS.MCGOWAN IS THE FIRST BLACK TECHNICIAN AT HARLEY-DAVIDSON

CONGRATULATIONS! Few people turn childhood curiosity into history, but Paris McGowan did exactly that.

“I just needed to know how everything worked,” she said, recalling how she took apart toys as a child. Years later, that same mindset led her to become the first Black woman technician at Harley-Davidson, a groundbreaking achievement she carries with humility and pride.

Now 26, McGowan works at St. Charles Harley-Davidson, where her focus isn’t on attention or headlines. “People keep asking how it feels,” she said. “I just want to do my job well.”

Her journey wasn’t direct. She explored other paths, worked retail at a dealership, and found herself drawn to the service area, watching technicians rebuild bikes piece by piece. That curiosity led her to formal training at the Motorcycle Mechanics Institute and eventually to her dream role.

“I just like pushing myself,” she said. Today, McGowan is inspiring others simply by showing what’s possible when passion meets persistence.
