LARRY HALPIN | SQUASH WORLD | FEBRUARY 1988

What a cover for February 1988 edition of Larry Halpin's excellent 'Squash World'...

Del Harris in full prep brandishing his gorgeous Grey's light Blue Graphite.... not many images more inspiring for a generation of young Squash players.... we all wanted to be Del Harris.... he was simply a sensation..... the most decorated junior in the history of the game and on his way to challenge the greatest two players in the history of the sport at that time....the legendary Khan's...

This was a time when Squash was bordering on being a mainstream sport even without hardly any TV coverage which is astonishing.... every town had a squash club...everyone knew someone 'good at squash'...aside from football it was the sport on everyone's lips....

and Del was top of the domestic tree... a player loved by the fans and respected by his rivals......

I remember driving into london and buying the Telegraph or Times newspaper and the football was secondary to Del's prospects in the British Open i was on my way to watch at lambs...

He had a huge battle that day with another English legend Stephen Meads that had the packed crowd enthralled.... Del won on this occasion but i think it went the distance....

Such great memories.....
