Snooker star Graeme Dott has been suspended by the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association (WPBSA) due to an upcoming court appearance.

As a result, the 2006 world champion is now out of the current World Championship qualifiers, where he was slated to compete this week.

The WPBSA released the following statement: "Graeme Dott has been suspended by the WPBSA due to a case which is scheduled to be heard before the High Court in Scotland.

"Whilst court proceedings are ongoing, it would be inappropriate for the WPBSA to make any further comment."

This announcement was mirrored on the World Snooker Tour (WST), the organisation behind the World Championship.

Dott, who joined the professional ranks in 1994, reached the finals of the World Championship three times between 2004 and 2010, clinching the title against Peter Ebdon in 2006.

However, his ranking has plummeted since those glory days. His last significant win was in 2007 at the China Open, where he triumphed over Jamie Cope in the final.

Dott's last final appearance was at the 2020 World Grand Prix, where he lost to Neil Robertson. He currently sits 59th in the provisional end-of-season ranking.

Dott was expected to participate in the World Championship qualifiers at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield this week. He was set to face the victor of the first qualifying round match between Wang Yuchen and Brian Cini.

The winner will now instead advance straight into the third of four qualifying rounds. The World Championship, taking place at the Crucible in Sheffield, kicks off on Saturday, April 19.
