Tanzania made its mark at the Spartan Beast World Championship 2024 in Abu Dhabi, represented solely by Ms. Mwahija Kisoma, who completed the final race with an outstanding performance.
Kisoma, an accomplished obstacle course racing (OCR) athlete and Assistant Lecturer at Mzumbe University in the Morogoro Region, participated in the Open Category of the Spartan Super 10K Race, which featured 25 challenging obstacles. She secured 5th place among 31 competitors in the female age group of 30-34, finishing 15th out of 183 female participants overall. Her impressive performance also placed her 187th among a total of 816 competitors from all genders, with a finishing time of 2:04:10.
By completing this third race, Kisoma has achieved a historic milestone as the first athlete from East Africa to earn a trifecta, joining the elite ranks of thousands of runners worldwide who have accomplished this feat.
Kisoma's success not only highlights her personal achievements but also serves as an inspiration for other Tanzanian athletes. Her participation opens up new opportunities for Tanzanians to engage in international competitions and enhances their chances of qualifying for the upcoming Los Angeles Olympics in 2028. This is particularly relevant in sports disciplines such as Modern Pentathlon, where OCR is included.
This remarkable achievement underscores the potential of Tanzanian athletes on the global stage and emphasizes the importance of international sports engagement.
