Milwaukee Bucks did not come on court after their Disney World game in Orlando was scheduled to start at 4 p.m. ET.
NBA cancelled Bucks vs. Orlando Magic, Houston Rockets vs. Oklahoma City Thunder and Los Angeles Lakers vs. Portland Trail Blazers.
Like a domino effect hours after the cancellation five Major League Soccer, three WNBA and three Major League Baseball games were cancelled.
Under NBA collective bargaining rules NBA teams are banned from striking but this is rather an unusual circumstance and it will have to be talked about by the NBA.
Former US President Barack Obama commended the Bucks for standing up for what they believe in and also for setting and example.
Sports solidarity was seen across the sporting world in recent times and it continues to be the case for the foreseeable future.
In another solidarity incident Tennis great Naomi Osaka said in her tweet that she will not play in the Western & Southern Open semi-finals.
"Watching the continued genocide of Black people at the hand of the police is honestly making me sick to my stomach," she wrote.
