ZANZIBAR: MORE than 20 teams are preparing for the Mapinduzi Cup Beach Volleyball Open Championship, which is scheduled for January 27th to 28th at Kendwa Beach in Zanzibar.
Amir Msimu, the Beach Volleyball Commissioner for the Zanzibar Amateur Volleyball Association, said that the event preparations are in top gear, and they expect more teams to register before the deadline.
Msimu has invited different teams to participate in the competitions.
So far, 21 local teams from Tanzania Mainland and Zanzibar have confirmed their participation.
Among these registration teams, 15 are men’s, and six are women’s teams.
Msimu is optimistic that more teams will register before the deadline for local teams.
“They have started early preparations for the event, which is part of the events planned to mark the Zanzibar Revolution Day celebrated on January 12th.
“The tournament is also part of boosting sports tourism through beach volleyball,” Msimu noted.
Further, Msimu stressed the need for more local teams to participate in the tournament as it is crucial for them to showcase their skills and gain experience.
He believes that the country has many talented players who should take part in the annual event to build a future beach national team.
Msimu also appealed for sponsors from companies, institutions and sports well-wishers to come forward and support the event.
