Jake Paul faces Mike Tyson in a highly anticipated showdown on Friday, but Netflix customers in the UK have been warned they could still face a huge fine for tuning into the fight

Viewers planning to watch Jake Paul face Mike Tyson have been warned they may face a substantial fine, even if they have a Netflix subscription.

Tyson's first professional boxing bout since 2005 is set to take place at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, in front of a capacity crowd of 80,000. In a unique situation for UK fans, the fight will not be available on pay-per-view through Sky Sports or TNT.

Instead, it will be accessible to all new and existing Netflix subscribers, allowing them to watch on various devices, including iPads, mobile phones, and televisions. However, the Daily Express reported those planning to tune in will still need to exercise caution after the BBC warned fans will still require a valid TV licence.

In a statement released earlier this year, the network reiterated its rules regarding streaming services, specifically mentioning UK residents using Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and YouTube to watch live programme coverage. And it's enough to put potential spectators on alert.

"A TV licence is needed to watch live content on streaming services, watch or record a TV programme on any channel and when using BBC iPlayer," read the statement. "Further information is available on the TV Licensing website or via the customer services team, who can help with any queries."

Those who risk watching the fight live without a TV licence could face a fine of up to £1,000. This comes despite the Government's promise in October to review the enforcement of licence-related penalties.

It remains uncertain how many viewers will subscribe to watch the bout, especially as organisers have reduced ticket prices in an attempt to fill the arena. According to Gametime, the lowest ticket price is now approximately £55, a decrease from £72 last week.

The cheapest seat was reportedly valued at around £103 in October. When the contest was initially planned for July, the best available price was more than £329.

That first date was postponed after Tyson, 58, experienced an ulcer flare-up on a plane. This sparked concerns about whether 'Iron Mike', who is 31 years older than his YouTuber opponent, was fit enough to return to the ring.

The fight is set for eight two-minute rounds, and knockouts are allowed. The pair participated in an open workout with fans on Tuesday, where the former undisputed heavyweight champion seemingly surprised spectators with his intense approach to the bags.

NBC PLANS ABOUT $2.5 BLN OFFER FOR NBA BROADCAST RIGHTS, WSJ REPORTS

Comcast's (CMCSA.O) NBCUniversal is planning to pay an average of about $2.5 billion a year to broadcast a package of National Basketball Association (NBA) games, the Wall Street Journal reported on Monday, citing people familiar with the matter.

Warner Bros Discovery's TNT (WBD.O) has paid an average fee of $1.2 billion under its current deal, but was unable to reach a new pact with the NBA before an exclusive negotiating window expired last week, according to the report.

Warner began airing the games in 1984, while Walt Disney's ESPN sports network began broadcasting the NBA in 2002.

Disney (DIS.N) is expected to pay an average per-year fee of about $2.6 billion to renew its deal, WSJ reported, citing sources, up from about $1.5 billion per year now.

NBCUniversal and its parent Comcast, Warner Bros Discovery, and the NBA did not immediately respond to Reuters requests for comment. Disney-owned ESPN declined to comment.

RIO FERDINAND HAS NAMED 12 PLAYERS HE CONSIDERS AS WORLD-CLASS AS A CONTROVERSIAL JUDE BELLINGHAM CLAIM WAS MADE

Since retiring from professional football, former Manchester United defender Ferdinand has been working as a pundit, often appearing on TNT Sports’ coverage.

On Wednesday night, Ferdinand was tasked with naming a list of world-class players.

The 12 players were - Ederson, Kyle Walker, Rodri, Jude Bellingham, Vinicius Jr, Harry Kane, Alisson, Virgil van Dijk, Kevin De Bruyne, Mohamed Salah, Kylian Mbappe, and Erling Haaland.

However, fellow pundit and former Arsenal man Martin Keown questioned whether Bellingham can be considered as world-class.

He said: “I think Bellingham is one I question. He’s in amazing form, what he’s doing at Real Madrid right now, but we look at Saka.

“Saka’s been the England Player of the Year. Bellingham hasn’t got a look in. Maybe Rio is being a bit mischievous with Arsenal fans.”

Ferdinand then explained: “They’ve actually got that list a little bit wrong, because Bellingham was on the list just below that on his own, edging into there. I think the thing that lets him not be on that list, for me right now, is just time. He will be there – he’s in world-class form. You just need that time – and that’s where I see Saka.

“Saka’s got that world-class potential, he just hasn’t been exposed to the knockout stages of the Champions League – the longevity is the difference. If you look at that list, you can see they’ve played in the top, most prestigious games and they’ve produced in those moments. And they’ve all done ridiculous things over a long period of time.”

Ferdinand received criticism from Arsenal fans after claiming Saka is not world-class, he said: “Not yet. Listen, I think Saka’s been unreal. I actually think he needs a bit of a rest, so many games for a young kid.

“But I think, it’s almost like what is world-class? He hasn’t done it in the Champions League, has he? I’m talking in the nitty-gritty stages. Saka’s top, don’t get me wrong. He’s not world-class yet.”
