The boxing legend chopped it up with Babcock about his second Mike Tyson Invitational amateur boxing showcase going down at SAHARA Las Vegas (fights stream here), where hundreds of young fighters get to display their skills in front of trainers, scouts, and Iron Mike himself.

Tyson dropped a bombshell during the convo -- explaining this is what he wants to be remembered for.

“This is my legacy, God willing,” Tyson said. “I want this to be my legacy.”

It's a massive shift for a guy who’s spent years brushing off the idea of legacy as pure ego.

The first event went down in March and was a hit ... and this one, Mike says, will be bigger and better.

“Listen, you won’t believe the number of people we had sign up this time. 350 kids in a couple hours,” Tyson said. “I was so gratefully honored by that. I want to help amateur boxing. I want it to be at the level it was when I was an amateur fighter."

The sport was poppin' back when Tyson was a teenager in the early 80s, but it's not anymore ... and you don't have to look any further than this.

“They’re about to take amateur fighting out to the Olympics,” Tyson says.

That's exactly why this is important -- it's not about a photo op or garnering good press.

Tyson believes the kids will benefit tremendously from their involvement in the sport.

THE SAD STORY OF TREVOR BERBIK | BOXING 🥊

 

Trevor Berbick stood at the exact hinge of boxing history, twice. And both times, it broke him.

In December 1981, he shared a ring with Muhammad Ali. It was the last fight of Ali's life, the final, sad chapter of the greatest career the sport had known, and it was Berbick who beat him, by unanimous decision. He had closed the book on a legend.

Five years later, he was on the wrong side of the next one. On November 22, 1986, Berbick defended his WBC heavyweight title against a ferocious 20-year-old named Mike Tyson. It lasted two rounds. Tyson battered him to the canvas, where Berbick famously staggered and fell three times trying to stand, and became the youngest heavyweight champion in history. Berbick was the stepping stone to the Tyson era.

From there his life unravelled. In 1992 he was convicted in Florida of raping his children's babysitter and sent to prison. After serving his time he violated parole, and in 1997 he was deported from the United States.

He went home to Jamaica, and that is where it ended. On October 28, 2006, Trevor Berbick was found dead in a church courtyard, his head split open by a steel pipe. He had been beaten to death over a land dispute, and the men convicted of killing him included his own nephew.

TONY TUCKER | FORMER IBF HEAVYWEIGHT WORLD CHAMPION

Former IBF heavyweight champion Tony Tucker was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1958.

Tucker deserves to be remembered among the heavyweight division’s best – thanks, largely, to just two performances in 1987.

The first was his IBF title-winning effort against James "Buster" Douglas – who was in inspired form that night, as any rewatch will confirm. The second was his gallant 12-round points loss to Mike Tyson – the only time a peak, motivated and fully focused Tyson came remotely close to defeat.

“Close” may be overstating it, but the hefty left uppercut that wobbled Tyson in the opening round, and the persistent problems Tucker posed throughout, were certainly unfamiliar territory for the young champion. X-rays later revealed Tucker had fractured his right hand in four places – a brutal detail that only adds to the myth of what might have been.

Had Tucker not slipped into a haze of depression and drug abuse in the aftermath, he might have gone even further. He returned at the end of 1989, a shade slower and heavier, and notched wins over Mike Evans, Orlin Norris and Oliver McCall en route to a shot at newly crowned WBC champion Lennox Lewis.

Again, Tucker was a handful. His ring IQ and veteran savvy no doubt offered a valuable lesson for Lewis, but after 12 rounds, the result was clear.

A 1995 attempt at the vacant WBA title ended in defeat to Bruce Seldon, and Tucker’s decline was laid bare two years later in Norwich, where Herbie Hide thrashed an undeserving version of the former champion in a bout for the then lightly regarded WBO belt.

Incredibly the 21-year-old Tucker was supposed to be on a flight to Poland that crashed on March 14, 1980. All 87 people on board were killed, including 22 members of the U.S. boxing team. Tucker didn't go because of a shoulder injury.

Former heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson arrived in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo, on Saturday (October 18th) to participate in ongoing 50th anniversary celebrations of the legendary "Rumble in the Jungle" fight between Muhammad Ali and George Foreman.

Tyson, who is considered one of Ali's spiritual successors, held a press conference at the newly renamed Ali-Foreman Stadium, formerly known as Stade Tata Raphaël. 

The event is part of a month-long celebration organized by DIVO International, with support from the Congolese government and the U.S. Embassy in the DRC.

During the press conference, Tyson expressed his enthusiasm for being part of the historic event, stating his desire to be in the same venue where Ali and Foreman fought. 

He reminisced about the excitement surrounding the original fight, which took place when he was nine years old.

The anniversary celebrations, which will culminate on October 30th with the official renaming of the stadium, include various cultural and sporting events.

Netflix says the Terence Crawford vs. Canelo Alvarez fight drew 41.4 million viewers over the weekend, per estimated data from VideoAmp, which would make it the most viewed men's championship boxing championship this century.

The estimated average minute audience (AMA) for the main event was 36.6 million live-plus-same-day viewers.

While those are big numbers, if accurate, it would pale in comparison to the 65 million concurrent streams Netflix claimed it reached during Jake Paul's fight against Mike Tyson last November, or the estimate of 108 million total viewers (though one of the more memorable aspects of that evening was the streamer's issues with buffering and resolution).

As for Saturday's bout, Crawford defeated Alvarez by unanimous decision (115-113, 115-113, 116-112), claiming the super middleweight championship in the process.

He is now a perfect 42-0 in his career, while Alvarez dropped to 63-3-2, losing for the first time since Dmitry Bivol defeated him in May 2022. Crawford has now claimed titles in five different weight classes throughout his career.

"I told y'all I'm not here just by a coincidence. God blessed me," Crawford told reporters after the victory. "He made this event, and he made this night just for me. And I've been telling y'all that. It's not my fault. It's God's."

It was a legacy-solidifying fight for Crawford, who can make a very strong claim for being one of the greatest boxers in the sport's history. Whether he'll continue to fight remains to be seen, though Crawford kept that possibility open.

"I don't know," he told reporters when asked if he fought in his final bout. "I have to sit down with my team, and we're gonna talk about it."

Given the numbers he and Alvarez reportedly pulled on Saturday, boxing promoters and broadcasters would surely love to see him continue on.

Anthony Joshua could face Jake Paul early next year with Wembley Stadium being lined up as a potential venue for the farcical fight.

The two-time heavyweight champion and Olympic gold medallist is seriously considering taking on the motormouth YouTube star in a real fight.

The British Boxing Board of Control would come under serious fire if they sanctioned a bout between such an experienced fighter and Paul, who has beaten only old former boxers in Mike Tyson and Julio Cesar Chavez Jnr as well as MMA fighters and other novices.

Paul, 28, lost to Tommy Fury when they boxed in Saudi Arabia back in 2023. Yet after 35-year-old Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn insisted his man was really considering taking on the YouTuber, Paul’s man Nakisa Bidarian told Sky Sports talks are underway.

He said: “I think the fight can absolutely happen. I'm looking at it as Jake versus Joshua, which is quite biblical, and it's quite impactful in many ways.

"I think size wise, we can get comfortable with it, and I think experience wise, Jake is learning very fast and growing, and Joshua is a little long in the tooth. So it could be a very interesting matchup, and we're actively discussing it with Matchroom.”

Joshua is currently rehabilitating after elbow surgery and not ready to return until December at the earliest. Hearn says he’s still intent on facing Tyson Fury and a Paul fight would be a warm-up.

Yet there seems little benefit other than financially of facing someone with 13 pro fights and no amateur experience before taking on Fury.

Saudi boxing power broker Turki Alalshikh said he would be interested in staging the fight and financially backing it as he is not a fan of the fights Paul has and wants to rid him from the sport. That’s why the Middle East is also on the table as a potential host.

Bidarian added: “I think we're looking at it happening at the start of 2026. It's public that AJ was taking a little time away, I think he had a little surgery. “So once he's ready, and once Jake is ready, we're going to squarely focus on that.

"It's a fight that Jake wants to do, and that's a discussion we've had at length, and he feels very confident about where he is in his career and his chances of upsetting Anthony Joshua.

“Wembley's definitely a possibility. Jake said he'd like to do it there. He likes the idea of going in and hearing 90,000 people booing him!"

The sport of boxing lost one of its greatest legends in "Big" George Foreman this week.

The former two-time heavyweight champion headlined the some of the most iconic boxing events in his heyday, Foreman sharing the ring with Joe Frazier and Muhammad Ali across 81 professional bouts.

One half of 'The Rumble in the Jungle' and an illustrious name in combat sports history, George Foreman passed away on Friday, his family announced on Instagram.

He was 76 years old.

"Our hearts are broken," the Foreman family posted Friday evening. "With profound sorrow, we announce the passing of our beloved George Edward Foreman Sr. who peacefully departed on March 21, 2025 surrounded by loved ones.

"A devout preacher, a devoted husband, a loving father, and a proud grand and great grandfather, he lived a life marked by unwavering faith, humility, and purpose.A humanitarian, an Olympian, and two time heavyweight champion of the world, He was deeply respected — a force for good, a man of discipline, conviction, and a protector of his legacy, fighting tirelessly to preserve his good name— for his family."

Foreman was born on Jan. 10, 1949 in Marshall, Texas.

The boxing world mourns the death of George Foreman, who led an inspirational life inside and out of the ring.

The Foreman family has recieved countless messages of support during this time, former Heavyweight Champion Mike Tyson sending his condolences for his fallen friend.

"Condolences to George Foreman’s family. His contribution to boxing and beyond will never be forgotten," Tyson said of George Foreman.

Mike Tyson has led the tributes to George Foreman following the death of the heavyweight legend.

Foreman’s family announced the death of the former world champion on Friday night with ‘their hearts broken’ after the loss of ‘Big George’ at the age of 76.

He leaves behind a staggering legacy in boxing, having won gold for USA at the 1968 Olympics before becoming one of the most feared world champions in the sport.

Foreman fought Muhammad Alli at the legendary ‘Rumble in the Jungle’ and was crowned the oldest world champion in history in 1994.

Foreman is remembered as one of the most ferocious punchers in boxing history with tributes quickly pouring in for the American.

Another heavyweight legend in Mike Tyson was among the first to pass on his message of support to the Foreman family.

‘Condolences to George Foreman’s family,” Tyson said on social media, sharing pictures of the two together. ‘His contribution to boxing and beyond will never be forgotten.’

Veteran boxing promoter Bob Arum said: ‘George was a great friend to not only myself, but to my entire family. We’ve lost a family member and are absolutely devastated.’

Former cruiserweight world champion Tony Bellew wrote: ‘RIP to one of the greatest human beings to ever put on boxing gloves.. This man was truly amazing!

‘There is no doubt imo he’s the greatest puncher boxing has ever seen.. Rest easy king the world is a lesser place without you.’

BOXING'S BIGGEST PUNCHER IS NOT DEONTAY WILDER OR MIKE TYSON

The debate will rage on for centuries about who the hardest-punching boxer of all time is. Is it Deontay Wilder or Mike Tyson? Today, WBN puts forward its candidate in Ernie Shavers.

All the talk seems to be of Wilder and Tyson from the last two generations as knockouts get into the boxing debate regularly. However, it’s one man from a golden era who also makes the Shavers case.

Alongside Ron Lyle and Joe Louis, the oldest heavyweight champion of all time, George Foreman listed the three men as ones he wouldn’t have liked to receive a hook from in anger.

Forever bashful, and not one to put himself in that category – even when many would, Foreman sees Shavers, Lyle, and Louis as the frontrunners.

“1 Joe Louis, 2 Ernie Shavers. The others did hit me: Ali, Liston, Frazier, and Lyle,” said Foreman when asked to name the boxers who carry the highest velocity.

Alongside those – possibly without Ali, Wilder and Tyson may come somewhere in the top ten. But without the depth they enjoyed in the division, it’s hard to place either any higher than those three.

Shavers, Lyle, Louis, Foreman, Wilder, and Tyson could be joined by Larry Holmes, Sonny Liston, Rocky Marciano, and Lennox Lewis as ten of the most concussive punchers ever.

Adding Lyle in there would come at Foreman’s request. ‘Big George’ has long championed the destructive nature of the former world title challenger.

“I didn’t get a taste of Ernie Shavers punch. But Lyle gave me a taste of “Space Travel.” Afterward, I could have become a consultant for NASA,” he once joked.

Promoter Lou DiBella gave his case for Wilder when the pair worked together. But like George, Shavers was a constant for both.

“(Deontay Wilder has) Arguably the greatest one-punch power ever. Up there with Mike Tyson, George Foreman, Ernie Shavers. The hardest punchers in heavyweight history,” said DiBella.

Avid boxing fan and Hollywood actor John Cusak was undoubtedly firm about who he sees as the top knockout artist.

“The one thing all the greats agree on somehow is whenever you ask a heavyweight who had the hardest punch, it’s always Ernie Shavers,” he pointed out.

Retiring in 1995 after a failed comeback and another further down the line not counted on his pro record, Shavers stopped 68 of his 74 victims.

He may have had a fearsome punch, but Shavers could also be hurt. He lost seven times via stoppage from fourteen losses.

But that’s what made a Shavers fight a must-see event. You didn’t know which way it could go at times.

Despite not winning the top division crown, Shavers will surely be happy with his place in history with the tag every heavyweight wants to own.

Even being placed in the same sentence as Wilder and Tyson is a testament to the legend of the man.

Jake Paul vs. Logan Paul?

The brothers jointly announced it Tuesday on social media, describing it as “the moment you’ve waited a decade for.”

But there’s mounting speculation − and good reason to believe − this will not be an actual boxing match. Posts from the Paul brothers indicate the event will be streamed March 27 on Max, which falls on a Thursday.

More information is expected this Thursday that likely will clarify the nature of the event.

A Paul brothers fight is not listed on BoxRec, which charts sanctioned professional and amateur bouts. BoxRec does not list exhibitions.

A prospective fight between Logan Paul and Conor McGregor has failed to materialize and Jake Paul has yet to announce his next fight since beating Mike Tyson on Nov. 15 by unanimous decision.

It’ll be hard to top the numbers from Paul’s blockbuster bout against Tyson. That fight, held in front of 72,300 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, generated more than $18 million at the live gate – more than any boxing event in the U.S. outside of Nevada, according to Most Valuable Promotions, a company founded by Paul.

Netflix said its broadcast of the fight peaked with 65 million concurrent livestreams, including 38 million in the U.S.

SPORTS LUMINARIES SET TO ATTEND TRUMP INAUGURATION

A number of sports stars from past and present are set to attend President-elect Donald Trump's inauguration Monday, including some stars from the world of combat sports -- where Trump has garnered a number of supporters. In addition to UFC President Dana White, other expected attendees include former boxing stars Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield, current boxing stars Jake and Logan Paul and UFC fighter Conor McGregor. Elsewhere in the world of sports, Oilers LW Evander Kane, MLB free agent Noah Syndergaard and former NFLers Brian Urlacher, Le'Veon Bell and Antonio Brown are also expected to be seen in the crowd. A number of these athletes are "expected at a black-tie reception" that Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg will co-host with several prominent sports team owners Monday night before the inaugural balls (AXIOS, 1/19).

FIFA President Gianni Infantino is also "planning to attend" the inauguration. Infantino says Trump has been "very supportive of FIFA," and the governing body's next two major tournaments -- the 2025 Club World Cup and the 2026 men's World Cup -- are set to be staged in the U.S. (USA TODAY, 1/18). Other UFC fighters expected to attend include Jorge Masvidal and heavyweight champion Jon Jones, who celebrated with Trump after retaining the championship in a November bout (NBCNEWS.com, 1/17).

Meanwhile, Trump during a campaign-style rally at D.C.'s Capital One Arena on Sunday said once he is president, he will take action to "keep men out of women's sports"

MIKE TYSON SUED IN LONDON FOR DITCHING PROMOTION DEAL TO FIGHT JAKE PAUL

Mike Tyson is being sued in a London court for nearly 1.5 million euros ($1.59 million) for allegedly breaking a deal to promote a gambling company in order to fight social media influencer-turned-prizefighter Jake Paul.

Medier, a Cyprus-registered company that promotes online casino and betting company Rabona, is suing the former heavyweight champion and his company Tyrannic for allegedly reneging on the deal, which was agreed in January.

The lawsuit, filed at London's High Court in October, says Tyson terminated the deal in March – the same day his fight with Paul was announced – because Medier breached their agreement.

Medier's lawyers, however, argue its actions did not constitute a breach of the deal and that Tyson's breach of contract has caused Medier losses of around 1.46 million euros.

"The true reason for Mr Tyson and Tyrannic's hasty and unlawful termination was because Mr Tyson had agreed a deal, sponsored by Netflix, to fight the influencer Jake Paul," the company's lawyer said in documents made public on Friday.

Tyson and Tyrannic have yet to file a defence to the lawsuit and Tyson was not immediately available to comment.

Paul, 27, beat the 58-year-old Tyson by unanimous decision in Texas last month, in a fight streamed live on Netflix that failed to live up to its enormous hype.
