SAUDI ARABIA LAUNCHES ESPORTS WORLD CUP- STATEMENT

Saudi Arabia said on Monday it was launching an annual Esports World Cup, which will include the most popular games in the world and have the largest prize pool in esports history.
The competition will be held annually in Riyadh starting summer 2024, a statement from Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman said.
Clubs will compete across games from various genres to become the ultimate Esports World Cup champion, the statement said.

Former Italy boss Roberto Mancini said he aims to make history after being named the new head coach of the Saudi Arabia national team by the country's football federation on Sunday.
The Saudi FA gave no further details, but Italian media reported Mancini would leave for Riyadh on Monday to attend a presentation event and sign a contract until 2027 worth €25 million ($27 million) net per year. He will make his debut in the dugout on Sept. 8 against Costa Rica.

Brazil forward Neymar is headed for Saudi Arabia after Pro League side Al Hilal agreed a two-year deal with Paris St Germain, Saudi state media reported on Monday.
There was no immediate comment from the Ligue 1 champions, owned by Qatar Sports Investments, but French newspaper L'Equipe said the deal could net 31-year-old Neymar 160 million euros ($175 million).
The transfer fee was reported to be about 90 million euros plus add-ons and subject to completing a medical.

SENEGALESE 🇸🇳 STAR SADIO MANE JOINS SAUDI 🇸🇦 SIDE AL NASSR FROM BAYERN MUNICH
Bayern Munich's Senegal forward Sadio Mane has joined Saudi Pro League club Al-Nassr after one season with the Bundesliga champions, both clubs said on Tuesday.
Mane has signed a four-year contract, Al-Nassr added on messaging platform X, formerly known as Twitter.
Financial details were not disclosed but media reports said the Saudis paid 40 million euros ($43.85 million) for the 31-year-old who had two more years left on his Bayern contract.

MITROVIC'S SITUATION NOT IDEAL AMID SAUDI INTEREST,

Fulham's Aleksandar Mitrovic will not play in their pre-season friendly against Brentford as the Serb is not training properly, manager Marco Silva said after the London club reportedly rejected a bid for the striker from Saudi side Al Hilal.
British media reported that Fulham rejected a 25 million pound ($32.14 million) bid for the 28-year-old, who has three years left on his contract.
Mitrovic has been Fulham's top scorer in four of their last five seasons, netting 14 Premier League goals in the 2022-23 campaign to guide them to 10th spot.
Silva said he had already spoken to Mitrovic but the matter was out of his hands.

PEGULA SAYS POTENTIAL SAUDI DEAL CAN HELP WTA ENSURE EQUAL PRIZE MONEY

American world number four Jessica Pegula said doing business with Saudi Arabia can help the WTA in its quest to ensure equal prize money but it will carefully evaluate following other sports to the Gulf state.
Saudi Arabia has pumped huge amounts of money into soccer, Formula One and boxing in recent years while the Saudi-backed LIV Golf circuit recently ended its two-year dispute with the PGA Tour and DP World Tour by announcing a merger.
WTA chairman Steve Simon said on Friday there were still "big issues" with Saudi Arabia as potential hosts for WTA events and the governing body of women's tennis had not yet made any decisions or entered into negotiations with the country.
"I'm sure we'll talk and go about it," WTA player council member Pegula told reporters ahead of Wimbledon.
Men and women get equal prize money at the four Grand Slams. WTA Tour events, however, have often offered less prize money than those on the separate men's ATP circuit, but the WTA last week announced plans to address the issue with a new strategy.
"If they (Saudi Arabia) could help getting us to equal prize money, though there are negatives, there's a lot of positives that can come out of it," Pegula added.
"Hopefully we don't just look at the negatives and we can see the positives. Hopefully something good comes out of it the right way."
Men's ATP Tour chairman Andrea Gaudenzi said last month he held discussions with Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF) and other potential investors on projects including infrastructure, events and technology investment.
Critics have accused Saudi Arabia of using the PIF to engage in "sportwashing" amid criticism of its human rights record. The country denies accusations of human rights abuses and says it protects its national security through its laws.
Men's world number one Carlos Alcaraz said he would have no doubts about competing there, while former Grand Slam champion John McEnroe said tennis should not seek Saudi investment.
Twice Wimbledon champion Andy Murray said he would have to think twice about playing in Saudi Arabia after refusing in the past to participate in exhibition events there.
"It's tough because... there's obviously issues there. I also think there's issues in a lot of countries. Sometimes things don't get talked about as well," Pegula said.
"... I trust Steve to make the right decision on what he feels is best for the WTA."

FRAMEWORK FOR PGA TOUR-LIV GOLF DEAL RELEASED

The framework of the merger agreement of the PGA Tour and Saudi-backed LIV Golf says a for-profit subsidiary of the U.S. golfing body will be created to manage commercial investments and assets for all tours, according to a copy reviewed by Reuters on Monday.
The PGA Tour will have a permanent controlling interest in the subsidiary's board of directors, regardless of the Saudi investment, the framework says.
