NAOYA INOUE VS. ALAN PICASSO PREDICTION: HOW WILL THE RING V MAIN EVENT GO?

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia – Pound-for-pound star Naoya Inoue will make his fourth appearance of the calendar year when he defends his undisputed and Ring Magazine junior featherweight championships against Mexico’s Alan Picasso at the Mohammed Abdo Arena on Saturday.

The 12-round bout is the main event of the eagerly anticipated "Ring V: Night of the Samurai" card in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The 32-year-old Inoue (31-0, 27 KOs) stopped Ye Joon Kim (KO 4) and Ramon Cardenas (TKO 8) this year before outpointing former unified titleholder Murodjon Akhmadaliev in September. The Japanese warrior will be looking to shine in his Riyadh Season debut and appears to be taking this assignment very seriously as talks of a superfight against elite-level compatriot Junto Nakatani intensify.

“I’ve always had [Nakatani] in mind, but now that I’m here [in Riyadh], all my concentration and focus is on Picasso,” stated Inoue during the Grand Arrivals on Tuesday. “[With Terence Crawford’s retirement], I’d like to plan out a great match to be deserving of being pound-for-pound champion.”

Picasso (32-0-1, 17 KOs) is currently rated No. 4 by The Ring at 122 pounds. In his most recent outing, in July, he was pushed hard by Kyonosuke Kameda before claiming a 10 round majority decision victory. The 25-year-old pressure fighter has been the WBC’s mandatory challenger since August 2024 and will be contesting his first world title bout.

“I’ve been waiting a long time and prepared really well for this,” Picasso said. “I’m maybe not the strongest fighter, maybe not the quickest fighter, but I’m mentally very strong at the moment. I’ve been getting ready for this with the help of my family and we can do it.” The Ring provides some pre-fight analysis and makes a final pick on the outcome.

Naoya Inoue vs. Alan Picasso fight prediction

It’s no embarrassment that Picasso comes into this showdown as a +1400 underdog in a two-horse race. Almost any 122-pound fighter, with the obvious exception of Nakatani, would be given next to no chance of vanquishing “The Monster”.

Picasso is a quality operator and has a lot going for him. The challenger has a three-inch height advantage (5-foot-8 to 5-foot-5) and a two-and-a-half-inch reach advantage (70 inches to 67 ½ inches). He is also seven years younger than the champion and will be hoping to make that count.

As is often the case with Mexican fighters, Picasso is an aggressive volume puncher. That style is in his DNA. While he can operate efficiently on the outside, the challenger prefers to close the gap with the jab and go to work with hooks and uppercuts at mid-to-close range. In that posture, Picasso is a handful and has excellent punch variation.

Making all this work against Inoue, however, will be a tall order. Should the champ elect to stand off, it’s difficult to foresee Picasso outboxing him. Inoue is the faster and more skilled fighter of the two by far. On the flip side, if Picasso manages to get in close, he’s likely to encounter the kind of hellfire counterpunching that he’s never seen before.

The style looks made-to-order for Inoue, so the result will depend on how he wants to win. Against “MJ” Akhmadaliev, the future Hall of Famer produced a brilliant exhibition of boxing skill and movement to flummox the Uzbekistan native over the distance. If Inoue adopts that approach, then perhaps he goes the distance in back-to-back fights for the first time in his career.

That’s not what I envision. With Nakatani waiting in the wings, my guess is that Inoue will want to make a serious statement of intent. Invariably, Picasso will have to close the distance and is likely to come off second best in most of the exchanges. As the punishment increases, the damage will mount, bringing around a mercy stoppage late in the fight. There may also be a knockdown or two.

Prediction: Inoue TKO 10

Coming back to the Al Nassr vs Al Khaleej match. Ronaldo’s goal was the last piece of major action in the match as Al Khaleej lost 4-1. Joao Felix opened the scoring for Al Nassr in the 39th minute before Wesley made it 2-0 in the 42nd minute. Murad Al-Hawsawi pulled one back for Al Khaleej in the 47th minute, but the Saihat-based club could not find any more goals.

Sadio Mane made it 3-1 for Al Nassr in the 77th minute, before Ronaldo pulled off the screamer in the dying minutes of the game. The goal came in the sixth minute of the last added time, a few minutes after Al Khaleej’s Dimitrios Kourbelis was given his marching orders.

It was a Nawaf Boushal cross from the right flank that led to Ronaldo’s goal. Alert as always, Ronaldo capitalised on the dipping cross to finish his 10th league goal of the season.

Al Nassr are currently at the top of the Saudi Pro League table with 27 points from nine matches, having won all matches so far.

OLEKSANDR USYK VS. TYSON FURY 2: SCHEDULE, STATS, VENUE, WHAT'S AT STAKE

When Oleksandr Usyk beat Tyson Fury on May 18 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, with a split decision, it was the first time in 25 years there had been an undisputed heavyweight boxing champion.

The first fight was a thrilling, breathless affair, and it is no wonder a rematch was called for almost instantaneously. There are simply still so many questions for both fighters to answer.

Will Usyk (22-0, 14 KOs), a former undisputed cruiserweight champion, make more history and prove he is truly the best of this generation? Or will Fury (34-1-1 24 KOs) turn things around and avenge the only defeat of his career to date?

Here's everything you need to know ahead of the fight.

Key details:

Date: Saturday. The event is scheduled to start at 4 p.m. GMT, with the main event ring walks slated to start around 10 p.m. GMT.

Venue: Kingdom Arena, Riyadh.

How to watch: The fight is available to purchase on pay-per-view across Sky Sports and TNT Sports in the UK and on DAZN in the U.K. and United States. ESPN will also have live updates of the fight.

What belts are at stake?

Usyk relinquished his IBF title in June, with Daniel Dubois becoming champion and defending the belt against Anthony Joshua in September. However, the Ukrainian still holds the three other main belts (WBA, WBO & WBC). These will be up for grabs on Saturday.

While Usyk will want to show his victory was no fluke, Fury is in unchartered territory, coming off a defeat for the first time in his professional career. The Brit will be desperate to avenge the loss and capture the belts for himself, while at the same time inflicting a first professional loss to his opponent.

What happened last time?

While Usyk won via split decision, there are those that say he won it more convincingly, and those who are adamant it was a close fight. Judge Craig Metcalfe scored the fight 114-113 to Fury, while Manuel Oliver Palermo had it 115-112 in favour of Usyk. Mike Fitzgerald scored it 114-113, also in favour of the Ukrainian.

While Fury started well in the eyes of many, and certainly had the better of Rounds 5,6 and 7, the fight swung in Round 8 -- when Fury was caught on the nose with a left hand -- and Round 9, when Usyk scored a knockdown and had Fury scrambling, his legs seemingly gone, only to be saved by the bell.

However, as he has shown before, Fury has a remarkable ability to bounce back and recovered well, winning the 12th round on all three official scorecards.

Usyk, too, was visibly beaten up after the fight, proving it was a brutal bout regardless of the outcome.

Fury has admitted he may have gotten complacent during the fight, producing some trademark showmanship when he should have been dialled in. All this leads to an intriguing rematch on Saturday.

Statistics

Usyk outlanded Fury 170-157 in total punches in the first fight; the 170 landed punches were the most by any Fury opponent.

The knockdown in Round 9 was the eighth time Fury has hit the canvas in his career.

His victory made Usyk the third fighter in the four-belt era to be undisputed champion in two divisions after Terence Crawford and Naoya Inoue.

Who is on the undercard?

Light middleweight: Serhii Bohachuk (24-2, 23 KOs) vs. Ishmael Davis (13-1, 6 KOs)

Heavyweight: Moses Itauma (10-0, 8 KOs) vs. Demsey McKean (22-1, 14 KOs)

Heavyweight: Johnny Fisher (12-0, 11 KOs) vs. David Allen (23-6-2, 18 KOs)

Featherweight: Isaac Lowe (25-2-3, 8 KOs) vs. Lee McGregor (14-1-1, 11 KOs)

ARTUR BETERBIEV VS DMITRY BIVOL JUDGES SCORECARD: EDDY HEARN SLAMS 'DISGUSTING' RESULTS

Artur Beterbiev secured victory over Dmitry Bivol in Saudi Arabia, but the result has not gone down well with boxing fans.

The scoring of Artur Beterbiev’s victory over Dmitry Bivol in Saudi Arabia on Saturday night has received a controversial response from boxing fans. The light-heavyweight clash lived up to its billing in Saudi Arabia, with Beterbiev and Bivol needing all 12 rounds to find a result.

And it was Beterbiev whose arm was lifted into the air by the referee in the aftermath, after the Russian-Canadian was crowned undisputed light-heavyweight champion via a split decision. The result of the closely-fought contest split opinion with those watching on though.

A large portion of boxing fans believe the result in favour of Beterbiev was unjust, opting to take to social media to vent their frustrations after the judges’ scorecard was revealed. Manuel Oliver Palamo scored the fight 114-114, but his two colleagues went in favour of the 39-year-old.

Glenn Feldman scored it 115-113 in favour of Beterbiev, whilst Pawel Kardyni’s result read 116-112, with the Russian-Canadian as the champion. Some boxing fans however were quick to disagree.

“Biggest robbery of the last ten years,” one tweeted, before a second went on to add: “Dude who gave it 116-112 needs checking. Could have gone either way, not grumbling at Beterbiev winning but 4 rounds [in his favour] is crazy.”

The complaints did not stop there, as a third fan posted: “Draw at best. No way Beterbiev won,” before a fourth went on to comment: “How can someone score this fight 116-112.”

Whilst those watching from the side were clearly unimpressed, Bivol showed his class by offering his congratulations to his rival. “I have to do everything perfect,” Bivol said post-fight. “And I don’t have any explanation because it could look like excuses.

“I just... Congratulations to Artur and his team. He deserves it.” The fighter went on: “He’s powerful,” he says. “Very powerful. And you see, I have a bruise on my hand. [His punching] was so hard, even he reached my eye.”

Quizzed on whether he wanted a rematch, Bivol replied: “Why not? Of course. If I had this chance, yes. This is my dream to be undisputed.” One man who was less accepting of the result was his promoter Eddie Hearn,  who slammed the result in the aftermath.

"In one of the biggest fights of our generation and in the most important fight in Dmitry Bivol's life you give him Four rounds? It's absolutely disgusting,” Hearn claimed.

“I don't want to disrespect Artur Beterbiev but Dmitry Bivol should be the undisputed champion tonight and that judge should never work again. Four rounds in a fight of that magnitude is disgusting."

UNDISPUTED KING CROWNED | RIYADH SEASON |BETERBIEV VS. BIVOL | FIGHT HIGHLIGHTS

WHY BETERBIEV VS. BIVOL NEEDS A REMATCH TO DETERMINE LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT SUPREMACY

Artur Beterbiev vs. Dmitry Bivol was a fight seven years in the making, one designed -- and delivered by Turki Alalshikh -- to once and for all crown an undisputed light heavyweight champion and determine supremacy at 175 pounds.

The fight was also slated to, perhaps, enter a new fighter into the pound-for-pound best conversation. And while Saturday's fight in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, certainly showed Beterbiev and Bivol are two of the sport's elite, 12 rounds weren't enough to truly separate them in a bout that lived up to the hype.

Yes, Beterbiev earned the majority decision -- 115-113, 116-112 and 114-114 -- but it was Bivol whom the public seemed to favor. And while boxing's top star, Canelo Alvarez, seeks revenge against Bivol, who defeated him in May 2022, now it's Bivol who searches for the same against Beterbiev.

"I'm aware I have to do everything perfect, and I don't have any explanation because it could look like excuses," said Bivol, who entered the ring as ESPN's No. 4 pound-for-pound boxer. "... If I have this chance [for a rematch], yes. This is my dream: to be undisputed."

Bivol, 33, seemed well on his way to achieving his dream. He was outboxing Beterbiev from the outside and frustrating him with his excellent jab and footwork. Bivol caught many of Beterbiev's vaunted power shots on his high guard.

But that accumulation of shots, even blocked, made their impact. After all, Beterbiev, 39, entered the ring as boxing's only champion with a 100% KO percentage. Beterbiev (21-0, 20 KOs) won the final three rounds on all three judges' scorecards to pull out the decision and left Bivol with a badly damaged left eye.

"He is powerful, very powerful," said Bivol (23-1, 12 KOs). "And you see I have a bruise from my hand [blocking punches]. He always beat it, and it was so hard. Even he reached my eye."
