FIFA LAUNCHES INVESTIGATION INTO BRAWL AFTER SPAIN DEFEATED ARGENTINA IN WORLD CUP FINAL

FIFA is launching an investigation into the altercations that broke out on the pitch after Spain defeated Argentina in the 2026 World Cup Final at New York/New Jersey Stadium on Sunday.

Spain beat Argentina, the 2022 World Cup champions, 1-0 in extra time after Ferran Torres finally got the ball past Emiliano Martínez’s goal line.

After the final whistle blew, several brawls broke out between players, and even coaches appeared to get involved.

Among them was Argentina’s Leandro Paredes appearing to grab Spain’s Eric García by the throat before others started shoving and tripping each other to the turf.

"Following an assessment of the relevant match reports for the FIFA World Cup final between Spain and Argentina, and in line with article 36 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code (FDC), the FIFA Disciplinary Committee has appointed a Disciplinary and Ethics Prosecutor to investigate potential breaches of the FDC with regard to the post-match incidents," a statement from the governing organization read.

Paredes ended up getting a red card after the whistle blew and was sent off the pitch. He was also shown a yellow card for a poor tackle shortly after he substituted in for his country in the second half.

Also, Argentina’s head coach Lionel Scaloni was seen being held back by a Spanish player while he was shouting toward someone. Nicola Otamendi also exchanged words with several Spain players, including their captain Rodrí before that skirmish was broken up.

There also seemed to be a moment where Argentina assistant coach Roberto Ayala approached Spain’s Dani Olmo and punched him on the chin before they were pulled away from one another.

"We are gracious in victory, and we must be so in defeat," Scaloni said, via ESPN. "We accept the loss; we gave everything. We were stretched thin coming into this, but giving it your all, like they did today, sets a great example for our people and our country.

"You lose, and you have to pick yourself up again."

Many were quick to rip into Argentina for the brawls that ensued after losing, including BBC’s Joe Hart.

"There was one man on the pitch who did have class and that was Lionel Messi, who shook hands with every one of those Spanish players," he said, via Goal.com. "The game's done. They could have absolutely no complaints about what happened today. Disgusting behavior."

What exactly might happen from FIFA’s investigation? Well, Paredes’ chokehold on the Spanish player would result in an automatically applied red card. Nahuel Molina and Ayala are both expected to be investigated as well.

Real Zaragoza goalkeeper Esteban Andrada faces a long ban for punching a Huesca player in the face, having already been sent off in a match in the second tier of Spanish league football.

The Argentina international, 35, pushed over Jorge Pulido and was dismissed for the incident on Sunday.

Andrada then became enraged, running to hit Pulido and sparking a brawl on the pitch in stoppage time of the derby clash.

Huesca goalkeeper Dani Jimenez and Zaragoza’s Dani Tasende were also sent off in the aftermath, with hosts Huesca holding on for a 1-0 win.

Andrada, on loan from Mexican side Monterrey, could be banned for up to 12 matches for the punch as well as the obligatory one-match sanction for his red card.

“We witnessed scenes unbecoming of this sport and which should never have occurred,” said Zaragoza in a statement.

“The club strongly condemns what happened in that moment, which has unacceptably tarnished a football match of special importance for our region, something that is unacceptable.

“Regarding our player Esteban Andrada, the club will analyse the events that occurred and take the appropriate disciplinary measures.”

Both Zaragoza and Huesca are in the relegation zone and fighting demotion to Spain’s third tier.

7:35 AM PT -- Miami police tell TMZ they received a call around 3 AM in the area of NE 2nd Avenue and 67th Street, where they initiated an investigation ... which included canvassing the area and interviewing several individuals.

No arrests were made and no injured persons were located at the scene in connection with the call. The investigation is ongoing.

Another video shows the beginning of the brawl ... AB takes several punches after getting into it with one individual. Others join in, and the rowdy altercation sends his hat, sunglasses and more flying to the ground.

Next thing we know ... he's being walked to a police vehicle in handcuffs.

He wasn't detained for long -- a source tells TMZ he was carted away by officers but returned to the venue about 20 minutes later as a free man."

 Antonio corroborates that detail with a tweet he shared following the incident, claiming he was not arrested and just temporarily detained while officers received his side of the story.

He claims he was jumped by "multiple individuals" who tried to rob him of his jewelry and cause him "physical harm." He says he will be taking legal action against the alleged perpetrators.

AB did not mention the two gunshots heard in several angles of the altercation circulating on social media. Several reports allege he is the one who fired off the gun in self-defense -- and in one video, a person behind the camera tells a responding officer he has a gun.

WEST COAST STAR REPORTED TO AFL INTEGRITY UNIT OVER ALLEGED BRAWL

West Coast Eagles star Liam Ryan has been reported to the AFL integrity unit over a brawl that broke out on the streets of Fremantle on Wednesday night.

The club released a statement on Friday morning confirming it was aware of an incident involving Ryan and had made the report.

“Liam and his partner Evana are safe, and Liam will continue with pre-season training on Friday morning,” the club wrote.

“The club is working to gather all the information, will support Liam throughout this process and will make no further comment at this time.”

The incident occurred after a music festival held at Fremantle Oval, around 10.30pm.

Vision of the brawl emerged on Thursday, allegedly showing another man throwing punches at Ryan, who then retaliates.

WA Police said officers attended the scene and dispersed the group, issuing two move on notices.

Their investigation is closed pending any further information.

Police confirmed the group had attended the Juicy Fest music festival which took place at Fremantle Oval on Wednesday, boasting American rap and R&B stars Ludacris and Akon among its headline acts.

The news of the brawl comes the day after Ryan was named in the 2025 Indigenous All Stars team to take on the Fremantle Dockers on February 15 at Optus Stadium.

“It really means a lot, it’s going to be amazing for me and the other blokes playing, we’re going to run out with pride and hopefully put on a show,” he said on Thursday.

“It was my dream to try and play in a game like this, and it means a lot.”

It’s the first time the Indigenous All Stars will be in action since 2015, and Ryan called for it to be played every two years in the future.

Ryan was in a playful mood during Thursday’s press conference, joking he might have to play in the ruck given the sheer amount of small forward talent picked for the Indigenous All Stars side.

The 28-year-old is one of West Coast’s biggest stars and an important cog in leading the club through its biggest-ever rebuild.

In 2018, Ryan was convicted of drink-driving and lost his licence after crashing into a tree in Armadale.

The incident happened just months before Ryan played an important role in West Coast’s grand-final win over Collingwood.

In 2017, Ryan was banned from Crown Casino for a period of time due to unacceptable behaviour.

YPSILANTI, Mich. (AP) — Eastern Michigan's athletic director apologized to South Alabama on Sunday, a day after an EMU player raced onto the field after the 68 Ventures Bowl and punched an opposing player in the head, sparking a brawl.

The confrontation happened as South Alabama's players, cheer squad and band lined up to sing the school song following a 59-10 rout of Eastern Michigan on Saturday night on its home field, Hancock Whitney Stadium in Mobile, Alabama.

An unidentified EMU played charged into the group and punched a South Alabama player in the back of the head. Another South Alabama player dragged the EMU player onto the field, sparking a free-for-all among members of both teams as smaller skirmishes also broke out.

FLA Live Arena in Sunrise, Florida - In a Sunday night exhibition fight, five division world champion Floyd Mayweather (50-0, 27 KOs) and John Gotti III (2-0, 1 KO) ended in an ugly brawl between the fighters and their camps.

The contest was scheduled eight two-minute rounds. Because the fight was sanctioned as an exhibition, no official winner was announced, and no judges were assigned to score the fight.

Mayweather, 46-years-old, retired from the sport in 2017 after stopping UFC superstar Conor McGregor in a cross-sport clash.

Since retiring, Mayweather has taken part in numerous exhibition fights. The most high-profile exhibition fight to date was a clash with social media star Logan Paul in 2021.

30-year-old Gotti - the grandson of organized crime icon John Gotti - turned professional in boxing last year. He also holds a 5-1 record in mixed martial arts.

Before the contest began, there was a loud 'Gotti' chant from the crowd. A big delay before the start of the first round, because there was a mob of people in Mayweather's corner that security and others had to clear out. 

Once the first round started, Mayweather was toying with Gotti and began to unload with punches from the start. Gotti was pinned against the ropes and covering up - and not throwing much of anything in return. It was a complete mismatch with Mayweather landing whatever he wanted from all angles. Mayweather was dancing, trash talking and having fun in the ring.

In the second, Mayweather was picking his spots with punches to the head and body. Gotti actually threw a few shots, but they were too slow and hit air. The third round saw Mayweather come out in a shell and dared Gotti to bring the fight to him. Gotti refused to take the bait. He tried to throw more punches, but not much landed. Mayweather continued to tag his body with hooks and then came back upstairs.

Gotti was too slow with his punches to connect in the fourth. Mayweather pinned him against the ropes and began to unload with shots to the head and body. Gotti tried trash talking and got popped to the face for his trouble. In the fifth, there wasn't much of anything from either guy. Mayweather was taking his time and picking his shots.

Before the start of the sixth, referee Kenny Bayless warned both men for their continued trash talking and antics in the ring - and warned that he would stop the fight if they continued to ignore him. Bayless had warned them several times for their trading of obscenities during the bout. Once the round began, they continued to trash talk and use rough tactics, so Bayless had finally seen enough and waved off the fight.

Once the fight was waved off, Gotti lost it and went after Mayweather and they began to brawl. Both camps stormed the ring, punches were thrown by both sides and there was an ugly mob scene that lasted for some time as the entire ring was filled with bodies. Even after Gotti and Mayweather were escorted out of the ring, fights erupted inside the ring between both camps, and the craziness continued outside of the ring.

A member of Mayweather's team got on the mic and pleaded with those in attendance to safely leave the venue without further violence."
