CHELSEA SIGN ECUADOR'S CAICEDO FROM BRIGHTON FOR BRITISH RECORD FEE

Chelsea have broken the British transfer record for the second time in a year by signing Ecuador midfielder Moises Caicedo from Brighton & Hove Albion on an eight-year contract on Monday.

Financial details were not disclosed but British media said Chelsea will pay 115 million pounds ($145.96 million), eclipsing the 106 million pounds record fee the London club paid to sign Argentina midfielder Enzo Fernandez from Benfica in January.

"I am so happy to join Chelsea! I am so excited to be here at this big club and I didn't have to think twice when Chelsea called me, I just knew I wanted to sign for the club," Caicedo, 21, said in a statementfrom the Premier League side.

"It's a dream come true to be here and I can't wait to get started with the team."

Liverpool have agreed a deal worth £60m for the Southampton midfielder Roméo Lavia. Chelsea are also trying to sign Lavia and Liverpool must convince the 19-year-old to move to Anfield.

Jürgen Klopp is desperate to strengthen his midfield and has been stung by Chelsea winning the race to sign Moisés Caicedo from Brighton. Caicedo, who is due to undergo a medical, is moving for a British record fee of £115m.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that the club has reached an agreement to sign midfielder Moisés Caicedo from Brighton.

But sources told ESPN that Chelsea are considering whether to improve their offer of £90m for the 21-year-old midfielder in an attempt to rival Liverpool's dramatic intervention.

Reports say the deal to bring Caicedo to Anfield is worth £111 million ($141m), which would be a British record for a player.

Colombia's teenaged striker Linda Caicedo is healthy two days after she collapsed in training, coach Nelson Abadia said on Saturday, adding that the frightening incident was partly due to the pressure of playing in her first Women's World Cup.

Caicedo, who is expected to play Sunday when Las Cafeteras face Germany at Sydney Football Stadium, slowed to a stop during training on Thursday, then put a hand to her chest and laid down on the pitch as teammates and medical staff rushed to her aid.
