SAUDI ARABIA: HISTORY IS MADE IN SAUDI AFTER WOMEN WERE ALLOWED TO SPECTATE AT A FOOTBALL MATCH

Saudi Arabia has allowed women for the first time to be spectators at a football game...
A hashtag "the people welcome the entry of women into stadiums" was repeated tens of thousands of time during the 2 hour match in Jeddah.

"This event proves that we are heading for a prosperous future. I am very proud to be a witness of this massive change," said Lamya Khaled, a 32 year-old football fan from Jeddah, as she was speaking with AFP news agency.

Strict rules on gender previously did not allow women to go to football matches and now the Kingdom is on a course to modernise its people by relaxing some rules.

This June women will be allowed to be behind the wheels. It was announced in September that the ban will be lifted.

In December a long ban on cinemas was lifted.

Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman is behind the gradual modernisation of his Kingdom.
