During Niklas Süle's final interview as a professional footballer, a curious moment arises: the centre-back suddenly feels peckish.

During his conversation with Sky presenter Sebastian Hellmann on the "Spielmacher" podcast, Süle announced his retirement. His contract with BVB expires at the end of the season. During the chat, he highlighted the standout moments of his 13-year professional career and candidly discussed his recurring weight issues. Towards the end, he even paused the interview to retrieve a bulging McDonald's bag from an adjoining room.

First things first. Before Süle presented his greasy gift, he stressed his principles and said he had never compromised his character. "At every club I've been to, I've made it clear who I am. Back then, I told Dortmund: 'If you're looking for a captain who shouts his head off – that's not me.' I spent an hour alone with Marco Rose, and he got me so motivated I felt ready to set the world on fire. He truly understood me. So I ended up as second or third captain and still wore the armband 15 times, even though I'd already explained I wasn't the shouting type. I thought, 'Maybe they're doing this because they say, "Hey, he earns the money, so he has to lead the way."' Why did I fit so well at Bayern for so long? Because there were other players who took on that role. Everyone in the team knew that,' he explained, adding, 'I don't say a word during the game.'

"I never forced anyone and said, 'Now pay me this and sign me!' I always played a different game. Anyone who says otherwise is lying." His agent, Volker Struth, had warned him about his candour. "Sometimes you have to watch that you're not too honest," he noted. "I've met thousands of players in my career and I don't think anyone would stand up and say, 'That Süle, he's a prick.' I can't imagine that. The person has always been much more important to me than playing 30 more games. That matters."

He admitted, "I certainly didn't get everything right," yet added, "I'm prouder of that than five league titles or five Champions League trophies. I've always stayed true to myself; sport never went to my head. My family and closest friends are very proud of that, and I know it," he said, his eyes filling with tears. "It almost makes me emotional." Moments later, the McDonald's bag made its grand entrance, prompting Hellmann to burst into laughter.

Süle has repeatedly struggled with weight issues

"I don't know what time it is, but I'm starving," Süle declared with a broad grin, then stepped out of the room. "If this is my last interview as a pro, I'll order twelve cheeseburgers. There are four of us, so three each—simple maths—but I usually polish off six myself. That was just a little joke, in case anyone fancied one." Nevertheless, he took a bite out of a cheeseburger shortly afterwards and explained, with his mouth full, that he'd thought of the joke during the car journey. Hellmann helped himself too.

A few minutes earlier, Süle had opened up about the pressure he felt over his weight during his career. At FC Bayern Munich, he once fasted the day before a weigh-in and sweated in a raincoat inside a sauna to shed pounds quickly.

Vincent Kompany embraced enjoyed the intensity of Der Klassiker after Bayern Munich’s dramatic 3-2 win over Borussia Dortmund.

When Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund meet, you can always expect some tension, and eventful clashes. On Saturday, Der Klassiker delivered once again when Bayern defeated Die Borussen 2-3 in a thrilling encounter.

After a pretty mild first half, the teams turned it up a notch for the second half, especially the last 15-20 minutes of it, with a late equalizer by BVB’s Daniel Svensson in the 83rd minute to knot the game, before Bayern captain Joshua Kimmich managed to score the winning goal with a beautiful shot into the upper corner of Gregor Kobel’s goal in the 87th minute.

Bayern’s coach Vincent Kompany pointed this out during an interview after the match, emphasizing both team’s initiative to get an extremely important victory, as captured by FCBayern.com. “That was extreme today. You could feel that Dortmund desperately wanted to seize their opportunity. We noticed that throughout the entire 90 minutes. Even after the 2-2, they kept pushing forward; they were determined to win. But our lads didn’t just sit back either. We kept trying to create our chances,” stated Kompany.

Kompany also took a chance to stress the attractiveness of the Bundesliga, showcasing to the football world how exciting the league can be. “In my opinion, it was great publicity for the Bundesliga. With intensity, goals, and above all, the absolute will of both teams to always attack and win the game.”

With this victory, Bayern Munich inches closer to the title, sitting atop the Bundesliga already having an 11-point lead over 2nd-placed Borussia Dortmund, with 10 games remaining.

PLAYER ASKED TO LEAVE CLUB BECAUSE OF GIRLFRIEND

Karim Adeyemi is a forward for Borussia Dortmund who has consistently delivered impressive performances for the German team, securing his spot as a regular in the national squad's line-up. However, he is reportedly reconsidering his future with the club. 

The reason? His girlfriend has apparently requested that they leave the town of Dortmund and move to a major European city. In response, the striker has dismissed his agent and stalled contract renewal negotiations to push for an exit and fulfill his partner's wishes.

DORTMUND SIGN CHUKWUEMEKA FROM CHELSEA UNTIL 2030

Berlin (AFP) – Borussia Dortmund's summer Premier League recruitment drive continued on Tuesday with the signing of midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka from Chelsea until 2030.

England under-21 representative Chukwuemeka, 21, joins for a reported fee of 25 million euros ($29 million).

He spent the second half of last season at Dortmund on loan, staying on as the club made the quarter-finals at the Club World Cup.

Chukwuemeka played 17 times for Dortmund in all competitions, scoring once and impressed despite struggling with injury.

In a statement, Chukwuemeka said he was "happy Borussia Dortmund is now my footballing home. I will give everything to make sure we achieve our goals as a team".

Born in Austria, Chukwuemeka moved to England at a young age and came through Aston Villa's youth academy before signing with Chelsea in 2022.

Dortmund sporting director Lars Ricken said the club was "delighted" to sign Chukwuemeka, who "further increases the quality and creativity of our attacking midfield".

Dortmund also signed Jobe Bellingham from Sunderland and Yan Couto from Manchester City this summer.

Jobe's brother Jude joined Dortmund from boyhood club Birmingham City in 2020 aged 17, moving to Real Madrid three years later for a fee estimated at 100 million euros ($117 million).

German tabloid Bild reported on Tuesday that two further Premier League signings could arrive before deadline day on Monday -- Chelsea defender Aaron Anselmino and Wolves striker Fabio Silva.

Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho, who has had two previous stints at Dortmund and just ended a loan spell at Chelsea, has also been linked with a return to the Westfalenstadion.

On Tuesday morning, Dortmund extended coach Niko Kovac's contract by one year until 2027.
