LOS ANGELES DODGERS' ALEX VESIA MOURNS DEATH OF BABY DAUGHTER IN HEARTBREAK SOCIAL MEDIA POST
Pitcher did not play during World Series against Toronto Blue Jays.

Los Angeles Dodgers player Alex Vesia is mourning the dead of his baby daughter, Sterling Sol, who died just two days after the team announced he would not participate in the World Series.
“Our little angel we love you forever & you’re with us always,” Alex and his wife, Kayla, said in a shared post on Instagram.
“Our beautiful daughter went to heaven Sunday October 26th. There are no words to describe the pain we’re going through but we hold her in our hearts and cherish every second we had with her.”
The Dodgers said Vesia would not be on the roster for the World Series against the Toronto Blue Jays, citing a “deeply personal family matter.”
Teams paid tribute to family
Both teams paid tribute to the Vesia family during games by wearing the 29-year-old pitcher’s No. 51 on their ballcaps.
The Vesias extended thanks to the Dodgers and Blue Jays organizations for their support, saying “our baseball family showed up for us and we wouldn’t be able to do this without them.”
“Thank you Dodger Nation, Blue Jays organization and all baseball fans for your love and support. We have seen ALL your messages, comments and posts. It’s brought us so much comfort.”
Family thanks hospital staff
Additionally, the family thanked the hospital staff who helped during the difficult time saying they were “truly so incredible.”
In a statement posted on social media before the start of the World Series, the Dodgers confirmed that relief pitcher Vesia would not be with the team as he dealt with a “deeply personal family matter.”
“It’s with a heavy heart that we share that Alex Vesia is away from the team as he and his wife Kayla navigate a deeply personal family matter,” said the statement. “The entire Dodgers organization is sending our thoughts to the Vesia family, and we will provide an update at a later date.”
The Dodgers defeated the Blue Jays 5-4 in Game 7 of the series at the Rogers Centre to claim their second consecutive World Series title.
Earlier, it was revealed that Dodgers fans have donated more than $30,000 to the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto.
The hospital told the Toronto Star that it has received more than 400 contributions from U.S.-based donors, each with a personalized message involving the Blue Jays or baseball, according to Sandra Chiovitti, a spokesperson for SickKids.

Ketel Marte's single keyed a four-run rally, Zac Gallen battled through six innings and the Arizona Diamondbacks swept their National League wild-card series with a victory 5-2 over the Milwaukee Brewers on Wednesday.
Arizona overcame a 2-0 deficit to complete a sweep of the best-of-three series, having escaped a 3-0 hole to win the opener 6-3 Tuesday. The Diamondbacks will open the NL Division Series on the road against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday.
Gallen (1-0) allowed two first-inning runs but kept the NL Central champions from adding on. The right-hander gave up five hits, struck out four and walked three in a 100-pitch effort.
The Diamondbacks scored four runs in the sixth to go in front 5-2. Marte lined a two-run single to center to put the Diamondbacks up 3-2, chasing Peralta. Tommy Pham scored on a bases-loaded wild pitch by Abner Uribe, and Lourdes Gurriel Jr. blooped an RBI single to shallow left.

Matt Manning, Jason Foley and Alex Lange threw a combined no-hitter as the Detroit Tigers blanked the visiting Toronto Blue Jays 2-0 on Saturday afternoon.
It was the 20th combined no-hitter in major league history, counting the postseason, and the first no-hitter at Detroit's Comerica Park since Justin Verlander threw a complete-game no-hitter on June 12, 2007. It was also the ninth no-hitter in Tigers franchise history.
Manning (3-1), in his third start since coming off the injured list after a foot injury, pitched the first 6 2/3 innings. He walked three and struck out five while throwing 91 pitches. Foley got the next four outs and Lange pitched a perfect ninth for his 13th save.
Kevin Gausman (7-5) gave up two runs and five hits in six innings as the Blue Jays' winning streak was snapped at four games. Lange struck out the first batter he faced in the ninth, Bo Bichette, on three pitches. Brandon Belt flied out to center before Vladimir Guerrero Jr. grounded out to third to complete the no-hitter.

Shohei Ohtani starred on the mound and at the plate, Mickey Moniak delivered the tying hit and the go-ahead home run, and the Los Angeles Angels held on to beat the Texas Rangers 5-3 on Thursday in Arlington, Texas.
The Angels won three of four in the series.
Ohtani (6-2) allowed two runs in six innings, and he also hit his 22nd homer. Moniak finished with three hits, including an eighth-inning solo shot.
Texas starter Nathan Eovaldi (9-3) gave up three runs in seven innings. Nathaniel Lowe and Adolis Garcia each had two hits and an RBI for the Rangers.
